Though he wasn’t particularly close to Fernanda, Kevin acknowledged that she was family. He knew boasting about her prowess in gaming could be a source of pride for him.
“Remember what I told you? She’s an exceptional gamer, but you seemed skeptical,” Ector said as he watched Kevin engage Fernanda in conversation. “She’s even part of Esaham University’s Esports program. Do you think that’s a minor achievement?”
Kevin, feeling somewhat chastised, silently stirred his coffee.
After savoring her coffee and enjoying a sandwich, Fernanda felt comfortably full.
She checked the clock—it was 8:30. Her thoughts wandered to Cristian, wondering where he was right now.
She quickly pushed that thought aside, scolding herself. Why should it matter to her where he was?
Ector suggested driving her to campus, prompting Fernanda to head upstairs for her bag.
In the hallway, she encountered Erika emerging from her room. Their gazes locked for an instant.
Erika quickly stepped back a few paces, her face showing clear apprehension.
Fernanda’s bright eyes fixed on Erika, and she gave a faint smile.
To Erika, however, the smile seemed unnervingly sinister.
Haunted by yesterday’s events, Erika feared Fernanda might be harboring resentment and plotting revenge.
“I’m just going to grab something to eat,” Erika stuttered, her voice tinged with fear. “I’ve erased all of Ava’s contacts—I swear I won’t associate with her anymore. Please, don’t target me. I was manipulated!”
“People who are easily manipulated are mere fools,” Fernanda responded with disdain. “Instead of complaining, why not work on becoming smarter?”
She cast a dismissive glance, threw her backpack over her shoulder, and walked away confidently.
Leaning against the wall for support, Erika realized she was drenched in sweat.

When had she started to fear Fernanda so intensely?
Downstairs, Ector awaited Fernanda’s arrival, noticing Erika’s distressed appearance as she descended, pale and unsettled.
Ector knew Erika was frightened.
Silently, he and Fernanda left together.
As they settled into the car, Fernanda made an unexpected request. “Ector, I need a favor. Before school, could you drop me at Esaham Central Hospital? There’s a schoolmate there I need to see.”
She was concerned about Neal’s health and hoped he was recovering.
Approaching the hospital, the traffic became dense. At a busy intersection, Fernanda suggested, “Let’s stop here. I can walk the rest of the way, and you won’t have to deal with the traffic jam.”
“Fine. I’m off to a meeting at the office. Let me know if you need anything,” Ector responded as he prepared to leave.
