Chapter 260:

“The hospital?” Fernanda’s eyes narrowed with alarm. “What happened to him?” Her mind raced. Had something serious happened to Leon? Why hadn’t he told her?

“It’s nothing serious,” Soren quickly reassured her, sensing her growing concern. “Just a minor surgery. He’ll be out in a couple of days. You don’t need to worry.”

“Minor surgery?” Fernanda pressed, her unease deepening.

Men like Leon didn’t shy away from making enemies or ruffling feathers. Yet a fight was one thing; a surgery was another—and a much more serious matter.

“I need to see Leon,” Fernanda said, her voice firm with determination.

“Really, there’s no need,” Soren tried to dissuade her, clearly regretting his earlier slip.

Fernanda’s past—one devoid of familial affection—had forged her into someone who fiercely valued her friendships. Her years in Zhota had given her a chosen family, people she trusted implicitly. Leon, in particular, had always been like an older brother to her. Now, knowing he was in the hospital, she couldn’t sit idly by.

Her sharp gaze caught the unease in Soren’s stance, as well as the nervous glances exchanged among his men. Whatever they weren’t telling her, it was enough to make her more resolute.

“I’m going to see Leon,” she said again, leaving no room for argument. She wouldn’t feel at peace until she saw with her own eyes that Leon was truly fine.

“Alright, I’ll tell you the truth,” Soren said with a sigh. Realizing there was no way to dissuade her, he had no choice but to come clean.

“What is it?”

Leaning close, Soren muttered into her ear, “Leon had a hemorrhoid surgery.”

For a moment, Fernanda was stunned into silence.

“He’s very particular about his image,” Soren continued, scratching the back of his neck. “He finds it humiliating, so he made us swear not to tell anyone—especially you. Please, Fernanda, don’t let him know I told you. He’ll kill me if he finds out.”

Fernanda exhaled sharply. “Alright,” she said. “I won’t mention this to him.”

In the span of minutes, she’d conjured a dozen dire scenarios about Leon’s condition, none of which had prepared her for this.

Soren’s crew moved swiftly, hauling the groaning men to their feet. Soren barked orders, his voice loud enough to carry over the scene. “I’ll take care of these guys. Don’t worry, Fernanda. We’ll get everything out of them—names, contacts, whatever we can. Where are you off to? I’ll give you a lift.”

“No need,” Fernanda replied, gesturing toward a building in the distance. “I’m heading to that office. Just make sure to find out who else was involved. If you can’t get a name, get a contact or any lead. I’ll handle the rest myself.”

Soren nodded, quickly glancing over Fernanda to make sure she hadn’t been injured before pushing the men into the van. He wasn’t the only one taken aback; his crew stood stunned, their eyes shifting between the battered men and Fernanda, who remained completely unscathed.

In most physical confrontations, the odds favored the men, especially considering the assailants outnumbered Fernanda. Still, she had brought them down without a single scratch. It left no room for doubt—Fernanda was highly trained, and her skills far outmatched anything those men could offer.
