Chapter 314
Chapter 314:
Jeff had arranged for a large spread of food to be brought, making it perfect for a cozy meal inside the tent.
Fernanda and Wendy followed suit, retreating to their own tent.
Jeff had set up a spacious three-person tent for them, giving them more than enough room.
“It’s way too cold for just evening,” Wendy said, rubbing her arms for warmth. “The temperature change from day to night is insane.”
“That’s mountain life for you. The wind’s picked up even more now,” Fernanda replied, taking a bite of her snack.
“I haven’t felt this angry in ages,” Wendy muttered, still fuming about the boy. “I can’t believe a kid managed to get me this worked up.”
Fernanda raised an eyebrow, smiling slightly. “I’ve never seen anything like it. And to think, he even bit me!”
Wendy let out another deep sigh.
Not wanting to dwell on the unpleasantness, the two shifted the conversation to the beautiful scenery around them as they munched on their snacks. Once they had finished eating, the chill had faded, and they felt much more at ease.
They settled down under the blankets as the darkness of night slowly took over the sky. The wind outside the tent howled, its relentless gusts creating a gentle whooshing sound through the night. Wrapped in thick blankets and layered with their coats, they felt no chill whatsoever.
It didn’t take long before Fernanda slipped into a peaceful sleep.
She wasn’t sure how much time had passed, but suddenly, she jolted awake. The sound of hurried footsteps reached her ears, stopping right outside the tent.
In an instant, Fernanda sat up and quickly unzipped the tent.
“What’s happening?” Wendy asked, equally startled by the noise.

As the zipper slid open, a sharp gust of cold air swept in. Fernanda stuck her head out and caught the sound of someone shouting in the distance, “Come back! Hurry!”
Turning her head, she caught sight of the boy from earlier, standing under the mountain’s streetlight. He was holding a lighter and trying to set their tent on fire!
Fernanda couldn’t tell what he had spilled on the tent, but as soon as the flame touched it, the fire erupted fiercely.
Through the blaze, the boy shot Fernanda a mocking look, laughed, and then bolted away.
In the chaos, or perhaps due to the dark, he ran the wrong way—straight toward the cliff!
“Stop! Don’t run!” Fernanda yelled, her voice sharp.
But the boy ignored her, laughing as he sprinted away. Suddenly, his foot caught on something, and he went tumbling toward the edge of the cliff!
The woman running toward them caught sight of the scene and let out a piercing scream that tugged at the heart.
Without hesitation, Fernanda sprang from the tent, rushed to the cliff’s edge, and peered down, letting out a breath of relief.
