His smile was infectious, and seeing it, Fernanda couldn’t help but return the gesture, nodding in agreement. “Fine.”
He was determined to reassure her, and so she chose to place her faith in him. Having Ector as her brother was indeed a priceless gift.
As Erika finished up her classes in the afternoon and stepped out of the building, she noticed Michelle’s car parked at the entrance of the school. Curious, she walked over to the vehicle and gave the window a gentle knock. Michelle, who was sitting inside, quickly unlocked the car and opened the door.
“Mom, what are you doing here?” Erika asked, a little surprised. “Why didn’t you let me know you were coming?”
“I came to pick you up. We’re heading to Grandma’s for dinner,” Michelle replied with a smile.
She had arranged a place for Crowell and Amber to stay, and Selma was there to help look after them.
“Awesome, it’s been ages since I last saw Crowell and Amber,” Erika said, noticing Michelle’s wide grin. “What’s going on? Why are you in such a good mood?”
“Something amazing happened,” Michelle said, barely holding back a laugh.
Erika’s curiosity sparked. “What happened? Tell me everything!”
Michelle quickly filled Erika in about the end of the partnership between Bloom Group and Voligny Company.
“What? Is this going to affect us? We’re not going to be broke, are we?” Erika exclaimed, alarmed.
“No way, we don’t depend on Bloom Group alone!” Michelle reassured her. “It’ll affect us, but we’ll be fine. Our company won’t fall apart over this.”
“That doesn’t sound like good news to me, Mom. Why are you so happy?” Erika had been so busy with her participation in the Luminary University music festival that she hadn’t heard a thing about what happened with Fernanda.
Michelle didn’t go into the details but simply said, “Anyway, Bloom Group cut ties with us because of Fernanda. She’s the one who caused all this.”
“Fernanda again!” Erika groaned, visibly frustrated. “She’s like a curse! Ever since she came back, everything’s been going wrong!”
“Exactly,” Michelle said. “That’s why your dad’s so mad. When I left this morning, he was on the phone with Fernanda, looking like he was ready to lay into her.”
At home, Michelle could barely hold back her laughter.
She was certain that Fernanda was about to learn the hard way who she could push around—and who she couldn’t. This time, Fernanda had really messed up.
Erika’s excitement grew, and she couldn’t help herself. “Why are we going to Grandma’s then? We should go home. It’d be a shame to miss that.” The thought of it alone made Erika giddy with anticipation.
Once her dad got mad, he’d definitely give Fernanda a good scolding—maybe even a slap or two.
The thought of Fernanda getting slapped had Erika buzzing with excitement, almost unable to sit still.
