Chapter 386
Chapter 386:
“It’s nothing. Wendy’s my friend; I’m happy to help,” Fernanda replied, and made her way to the stage.
The young man placed a high stool behind the microphone stand and ensured she had everything she needed. Fernanda sat down, ran her fingers over the guitar strings to fine-tune them, and began singing a gentle, well-loved melody. The song flowed like a river—soft and entrancing.
Leaning in toward Wendy, the young man whispered, “Your friend’s singing is impeccable. It’s not quite like the original, but it has its own unique beauty.” His eyes flicked nervously to the middle-aged man, who was now lounging on the sofa with his eyes closed, nodding faintly to the rhythm. The tension in his posture eased as he appeared genuinely enthralled.
Fernanda continued singing, transitioning seamlessly between songs. The middle-aged man caused no further disruptions and even clapped enthusiastically after a few performances.
“I think we’re in the clear now,” the young man said with a relieved grin. “Wendy, you’ve got to thank your friend. She saved the night!”
Wendy chuckled. “I definitely will.”
After a few songs, Fernanda began to feel a bit tired and decided to switch to the guitar for her next performance. The piece she chose was originally meant for piano, but she loved it so much that she had adapted it to guitar. While her rendition differed from the original, it carried a simple, captivating charm of its own.
As she played, her thoughts drifted to Cristian. She remembered hearing this very piece in his car one afternoon. His taste in music was so similar to hers—many of the songs he favored were ones she had adored for years.
Lost in the melody, Fernanda thought she saw him. At first, she dismissed it as imagination, but then her heart stuttered—Cristian was truly there. He stood at the entrance, soft blue lighting casting an ethereal glow over his tailored black suit, giving him an almost otherworldly elegance.
As the lights shifted to a gentle yellow, his face came fully into view—sharp features softened by warmth. He stood tall and poised, like a figure drawn from a dream. Their eyes met, and the world around them seemed to fade. His gaze held hers with an intensity that both calmed and disarmed her.
Her heart fluttered, and in that momentary distraction, her fingers slipped. A discordant note rang out as her hand faltered on the guitar strings.

As the final notes faded, Cristian clapped appreciatively.
Catching his eye, Fernanda noticed his encouraging thumbs-up. Her smile brightened, but she suddenly felt a twinge of anxiety. She wondered if Cristian might recognize the guitar melody as the one he had played in his car the other day. The thought that he might assume she played it specifically for him made her feel embarrassed.
Caught up in her thoughts, Fernanda was jolted back to the present by the audience’s applause, prompting her to start another piece. By chance, it was another song Cristian favored in his car. She had come to realize their musical tastes overlapped significantly based on the tracks he often played.
Redirecting her attention from Cristian to her instrument, Fernanda continued playing, despite the emotional turmoil inside. She was determined to lift the mood of the evening, as she had promised Wendy she would help until the venue closed.
