Chapter 391:

Fernanda tried to move her feet, but Cristian mirrored her every motion. His suit pants, smooth and well-tailored, brushed against her ankle, sending a shiver through her.

He stayed relaxed on the sofa, a lazy grin tugging at the corner of his lips. His upper body didn’t budge, making it impossible for Bobby and Jordyn to catch on to their secret little exchange beneath the table.

Fernanda’s focus was completely consumed by Cristian’s every move until a sharp clap from Jordyn pulled her back into the moment.

“Bobby, you missed it! You didn’t hear how beautifully your fiancée played the guitar earlier!” Jordyn exclaimed, her voice filled with disappointment. “It was absolutely stunning.”

She then shifted her gaze to Fernanda, her eyes alight with enthusiasm. “Fernanda, now that Bobby’s here and the vibe is perfect, why not play another song for him? Maybe even sing a few more. With such a beautiful voice, I’m sure your singing is just as amazing! Way better than those singers at the bar! We’d love to hear it.”

Fernanda, without hesitation, shook her head. “No,” she replied simply. “I’ve already played and sung enough today. I’m a little tired now.”

“Oh, come on! Playing the guitar doesn’t take much energy,” Jordyn persisted, not wanting Fernanda to refuse. “Do this one little favor for Bobby, and let me, your new friend, hear you too. What do you say?”

With a playful tilt of her chin, Jordyn almost dared Fernanda to turn her down. “I’ve already got drinks ready for you. You can come back and enjoy them as soon as you’re done,” she added.

The way Jordyn spoke made it clear that she truly thought Fernanda was some sort of bar singer.

Fernanda didn’t care much about how Jordyn viewed her. Even if Jordyn believed she was a bar singer, it didn’t bother her—after all, performing in bars wasn’t a shameful job. What irritated Fernanda was the tone Jordyn used. It felt as though Fernanda was expected to entertain them, as if she were there to serve their amusement, beneath them somehow.

Fernanda couldn’t figure out where Jordyn’s sense of superiority had come from. “Sorry, Miss Becker, but I’ve really had enough singing for today,” Fernanda said, her voice calm and composed. “I’m here today to sing at the request of a close friend since the originally assigned singer is sick. As for performing for you, I’m afraid I can’t. We aren’t that close, after all.”

Jordyn’s face froze, clearly caught off guard by Fernanda’s directness.

Then, without warning, Fernanda smiled.

Her smile was warm and bright, the corners of her eyes softening as her usual cool demeanor melted away. The dimples on her cheeks made her seem sweet and innocent.

Cristian’s eyes narrowed, thinking she reminded him of a little fox.

“But, since you are so eager to hear me,” Fernanda continued with a teasing tone, “it’s not impossible. The thing is, my singing comes with a price. I wonder if you are willing to pay, Miss Becker.”

Jordyn flashed a smile. “Oh? How much are we talking?”

Fernanda grinned mischievously. “A million per song,” she said. “Is that something you can afford?”
