Fernanda smiled and nodded in agreement.
Haley strolled beside Fernanda, casually asking, “Was that Cristian who dropped you off just now?”
So, Haley had noticed.
Fernanda didn’t bother hiding anything and answered plainly, “We ran into each other today, and Mr. Reed offered me a ride back. His friend, Jordyn, was also with us, and Bobby went to drop her off afterward.”
“Ah, Jordyn, I’ve met her,” Haley replied with approval. “She’s a wonderful young woman—well-mannered, well-educated, and truly impressive.”
She continued, “And of course, Miss Morgan, you are equally remarkable.”
Fernanda had heard this sort of praise so many times that it no longer affected her. She kept walking toward the dorm building, her pace slow as curiosity about Haley’s real intentions crept in.
Haley’s voice had a mature, dulcet tone. She spoke slowly on purpose, making her words sound calm and relaxed, like they were wrapped in a peaceful quiet. Haley asked about Fernanda’s life since returning to Esaham and also seemed curious about her connection with Bobby. Fernanda replied carefully, mixing the truth with a bit of tact, making sure to avoid saying anything that might cause trouble.
As they drew closer to the dormitory building, the soft glow of lights from each room illuminated the space, casting long shadows on the twisted tree branches below.
“Miss Morgan,” Haley began, “I can tell that even though you’re young, you’ve seen a lot. But having life experience doesn’t always mean someone knows how to manage personal relationships well. You’re exceptional, and I’m sure there are many remarkable men in your life. I just hope you can handle everything with grace and not let it cause you any trouble.”
The yellowish glow of the streetlight gently lit up Haley’s face, softening the angles of her striking features and adding a subtle warmth to her otherwise bold appearance.
Fernanda took in Haley’s outfit—a long dress paired with a light coffee-colored trench coat. Her hair was neatly pinned in a low bun, giving her an air of timeless elegance, like a figure in a classical painting.

Haley’s smile deepened, and her warmth seemed to grow. “One more thing, I can tell that Cristian thinks highly of you.”
Fernanda’s face remained neutral, but inside, she was instantly on alert. It didn’t take long for her to realize that this was the true reason behind Haley’s visit.
“Is that so?” Fernanda responded coolly. “What makes you think that?”
Haley lifted her chin, let out a soft breath, and stepped to the side. “Even though I’m not Cristian’s biological mother, I’m his aunt, and we have a strong family connection. More importantly…”
She turned slowly, her sharp, captivating eyes locking onto Fernanda with a knowing intensity. “I’m a woman, and I understand men quite well. A man’s feelings toward a woman are shown in his actions, his tone, and his gaze.”
