Chapter 406
Chapter 406:
Their laughter filled the air as Fernanda and Sloane moved on.
“Look over there,” someone pointed out. “That’s Dr. Becker and her boyfriend, isn’t it?”
Fernanda glanced over and spotted a sleek black business car parked beneath the sycamore trees lining the shaded path.
Next to it stood a young man in a dapper suit, all charm and smiles. He and Jordyn, facing each other, looked like a perfect match. And that dashing man was none other than Cristian.
Jordyn and Cristian stood at a distance, making it impossible for others to catch their conversation.
“Did you see Dr. Becker’s boyfriend? He’s so attractive,” one girl murmured. “And he has this air of charisma and elegance. Bet he aced all his classes in school.”
Her friend chuckled. “Seriously? You’re judging his grades by his looks?”
“Well, he seems like the type who’s good at everything. If he’s that smart, could he have done poorly?”
The hall only had one exit, so everyone leaving would naturally cross paths with Jordyn and Cristian.
As Fernanda approached, Jordyn blocked her path.
“Cristian, Miss Morgan is brilliant!” Jordyn exclaimed, grasping Fernanda’s hand and addressing Cristian. “She attended my lecture today, and her grasp of economics rivals the majors. She almost stumped me.”
Sloane burst into laughter. “Dr. Becker, you’re joking, right? Fernanda stumped you? Come on, you were the one who asked the question and called on her to answer it in front of everyone. And you continued to fire more questions at her after she responded to the first one. It was she who struggled to answer!”
Jordyn nodded in agreement. “Exactly! Cristian, you know how carried away I get with academics. Sometimes I just lose track of everything else.”
Sloane tugged on Fernanda’s arm. “Come on, let’s go.”
Fernanda departed alongside Sloane, not uttering a single word to Cristian, while Cristian also avoided looking at her.

The distance between them was palpable, almost like strangers.
Jordyn frowned. This wasn’t how it was supposed to be.
She distinctly remembered the way Cristian had admired Fernanda during their last meeting.
Why was he so detached now? Was she reading too much into things?
Shaking off the thought, Jordyn smiled at Cristian. “I’ve been talking nonstop. Let’s grab a coffee?”
Cristian checked his watch and replied coolly, “I have to get back to work.”
Jordyn wasn’t deterred. “I can tag along to the café near your office. Please give me a lift.”
Cristian’s brow furrowed.
