Chapter 486:

Next to Curran was Julio, who barely spared Fernanda a glance before leaning over to whisper something into Curran’s ear.

Haley let out a quiet snort, but Fernanda couldn’t catch the words exchanged from where she stood.

Bobby reached for Fernanda’s wrist gently, guiding her toward the living room.

“Grandfather,” Bobby greeted warmly, “this is Fernanda.”

Curran offered Fernanda a beaming smile. “Oh, you’re dressed so lightly! Aren’t you cold?”

His friendly tone softened the room’s atmosphere, making it feel less formal.

Fernanda smiled politely. “Not at all, but thank you for your concern.”

Curran’s eyes appraised her from head to toe, his smile widening. “That dress is stunning. Truly, young ladies should wear dresses like this! Classic, elegant—none of those backless, shoulder-baring contraptions with skirts that are this wide!”

He spread his arms exaggeratedly for effect, then broke into a hearty laugh.

The infectious laughter spread through the group, lightening the mood. Curran turned to Bobby, giving him a thumbs-up. “You’ve found yourself a young lady with excellent taste!”

Patting the seat beside him, Curran beckoned. “Come, both of you, sit with me.”

Bobby sat next to Curran, with Fernanda beside him.

Since her arrival, Curran’s attention rarely wavered from Fernanda. “I could tell right away you are special,” he said with certainty. “Tell me, what are your interests?”

“I enjoy playing video games,” Fernanda admitted without hesitation.

Julio smirked subtly. It wasn’t the kind of answer Curran typically welcomed.

The older man rarely hid his disdain for video games. He often ranted about how much of a waste of time they were.

Fernanda’s answer might unwittingly leave a bad first impression. Bobby tensed, inwardly blaming himself for not preparing Fernanda better.

But to everyone’s surprise, Curran chuckled and nodded. “Games, eh? Good for you! Young people need to relax sometimes. Don’t overwork yourself.”

Julio blinked, baffled. The same man who had berated him hours ago was now applauding Fernanda for the exact same pastime.

Curran leaned forward eagerly. “What else do you enjoy?”

Fernanda glanced at the paintings on the walls. “I dabble in painting now and then.”

Curran’s eyes lit up. He clapped his hands together in delight. “Fantastic! I love paintings! It seems we have a lot in common.” He shifted closer to her, gesturing toward the walls. “Let me tell you about these pieces.”

Meanwhile, Julio shot Fernanda a covert glare.
