A woman in a striking dark blue gown commented, “That dress she’s wearing is stunning! Judie, could you call her over? I need to know where she got it. I’d love to get a few like it.”

The group lit up, buzzing with excitement at the thought of acquiring new, exquisite dresses.

Unable to resist her friends’ prodding, Judie cracked a smile and said, “Alright, I’ll call her over.”

Meanwhile, Fernanda was chatting with Robert. He was busy coaching her to take Erika, Kevin, Crowell, and Amber to greet Curran, hinting they ought to show their faces to him.

Fernanda chuckled. “What are they, three-year-olds? Can’t they manage on their own?”

Robert’s expression soured, revealing a flicker of irritation. “Curran seems quite taken with you. If you bring them along, maybe he’ll shine some of that attention their way.”

“And then what?” Fernanda shot back. “Do you think this is like meeting a king, where a few extra glances might spell their big break?”

“You…”

“If they want to go, they can head over by themselves,” Fernanda said with a shrug. “I’m swamped right now.”

She had won Curran’s favor through her own sheer efforts. Now, Robert thought they could ride her coattails? Fat chance!

In life, there’s no path laid out for you. If you want one, you have to forge it yourself. Otherwise, you’re stuck where you are. Robert was visibly irritated by Fernanda’s dismissive stance.

Yet, being at Curran’s grand birthday banquet with a constant stream of guests, he couldn’t let his temper flare up. Instead, he raised his voice a notch. “Why do you have to be so self-centered? What’s keeping you so busy anyway? You just…”

Before Robert could finish his sentence, Fernanda felt a tap on her shoulder.

She turned to find Judie standing there, her expression stern. “Come with me for a moment,” she said.

Recognizing Judie, Robert’s demeanor shifted instantly. He flashed a broad smile. “Hello, Judie. I…”

But Judie wasn’t in the mood for chit-chat. After summoning Fernanda, she strode off in her elegant heels.

Fernanda gave Robert a playful look, as if to say, “See? Told you I was busy.”

Then she followed Judie.

Although she wasn’t particularly close to Judie, Fernanda found her company more bearable than Robert’s.
