Chapter 536:

Eventually, he found himself ousted from the Reed family, the heavy iron gate clanging shut behind him.

Cristian jolted awake, his body jerking as he escaped the clutches of his dream.

Evie, taken aback by his sudden movement, yanked off her headphones and peered at him, puzzled. “Cristian, what’s wrong?” The drone of the plane’s engines mingled with the flight attendant’s announcement about landing.

Cristian glanced at the endless dark expanse outside the window, fully emerging from the grips of his nightmare.

“It’s nothing,” he brushed it off with a nonchalant shrug. “Just a bad dream.”

“You’re just tired. You need some sleep,” Evie advised as she stowed away her tray table. “You should take a page from my brother’s book—party all night, have a few drinks, live it up. He never gets bad dreams.”

She paused, a thought striking her. “Now that he’s engaged, he’s not still chasing skirts, is he? He better not be. No girl tops his fiancée.” She laughed softly. “I’m itching to meet her.”

Cristian’s eyes brightened as the fog of sleep lifted.

Catching her eager look, he offered, “How about I take you?”

“Take me where?” Evie blinked.

“To meet his fiancée,” Cristian elaborated gently. “You’ve been wanting to meet her, right?”

“Oh, yes!” Evie gasped, a look of realization dawning on her. “Cristian, you know her too?”

Smacking her forehead, she remembered something. “Oh, of course! I heard about your business ties. And soon we’ll be family, right?”

“Exactly,” Cristian nodded, a smile tugging at his lips. “We’re practically family. I plan to invite her to dinner tomorrow. You in?”

Due to the bruises on her face, Bonita decided to skip class today. Concerned about causing worry among her roommates or facing questions from her schoolmates, she opted for a day of rest at the hotel instead.

To avoid the outside world a bit longer, Bonita extended her stay in her room, content to remain in bed without moving for hours. Meanwhile, Fernanda had resumed her classes, mentioning the two morning sessions but stating she would be available to hang out later in the afternoon.

With the room to herself, Bonita spent the time reflecting on last night’s conversation with Fernanda. Opening up like that had been rare for her; it felt as though she had shed a great burden, which left her feeling renewed and lighter.

The comforting words Fernanda had offered last night opened up a new way of thinking for Bonita, sparking fresh motivation within her.

When Bonita checked her secondary WhatsApp account, she noticed several unread messages from Neal, ranging from last night through to this morning. Realizing that she had deviated from her nightly routine of wishing Neal goodnight since their relationship began, she remembered that she had missed it amid yesterday’s chaos.
