Chapter 557
Chapter 557:
Bobby’s face lit up with joy at her words, agreeing eagerly.
The sound of footsteps in the yard made Fernanda turn, and soon Jalen appeared. Dressed in a gray sweater and a dark knit hat, he still looked fragile. Without hesitation, Fernanda gently guided him back inside.
As they entered the room, Fernanda’s eyes fell on a young couple. She took a moment to observe the young woman before her, noticing something familiar in her features. A smile spread across her face as she called out, “Carrie?”
Carrie Gibson, who had already heard about Fernanda’s recent visit from her parents, recognized her instantly. She stood up, a warm expression lighting up her face as she greeted her.
Carrie was the daughter of Jalen and Meilani. Fernanda remembered playing with her as children in the village, where their bond had been effortless and natural. Much like her father, Carrie had always been kind-hearted. Even as a teenager, she never found Fernanda to be a bother and was often the one to invite her into games. However, after Carrie and her family moved away, Fernanda didn’t cross paths with her anymore.
On the bed, a toddler of about two years old was peacefully asleep. Meilani leaned in to share that the child was Carrie’s daughter with her husband, Aiken McCoy. Aiken had a solid, stocky build, a square jaw, and thin-framed glasses, all of which contributed to an image of sincerity and trustworthiness.
Once introductions were made, everyone settled in to chat. Meilani busied herself with preparing a meal, while the group engaged in warm conversation, catching up on the years that had passed.
Bobby eagerly followed her into the kitchen, assuring her that this time, he would wash the vegetables better than before.
In an effort not to disturb the sleeping child, Fernanda and Jalen retreated to another room to continue their conversation.
Jalen smiled as he said to Fernanda, “Lately, our shop has been attracting quite a crowd—wealthy and influential women, every one of them. I know it’s all thanks to you, my dear.”

Fernanda shrugged off the praise with a modest smile. “Don’t mention it,” she replied. “I simply wore the gown you made to a party, and people noticed and asked where I got it. Then I gave them your address.”
With a thoughtful nod, Jalen adjusted his glasses. A gentle sigh escaped him as he continued, “We did have quite a few visitors. The shop is small, so it was a bit tight. But luckily, those women were understanding and patient.”
Carrie, entering to grab some milk for the child, joined the conversation with a warm smile. “You have no idea how happy my dad was,” she said. “He said the shop finally got the attention it deserved, and now he’s feeling hopeful for the future.”
Jalen’s head nodded enthusiastically as he spoke, his eyes sparkling with pride. “What made me happy was the genuine appreciation some of the ladies showed for the craft. They asked about fabrics, patterns, and embroidery techniques. It was such a refreshing conversation.”
