Chapter 565
Chapter 565:
“I had hoped to give you a fireworks show, just for you,” Cristian explained, watching her carefully as he held her clothes away from the sparking tips.
“As a child, I thought sparklers were a rare treat for Christmas. I never asked Hiram to buy them for me because I didn’t want him to waste money. Instead, I would watch other kids play with them, content enough just to see them enjoy it.”
The glow of the sparklers bathed her face in light, highlighting the beauty of Fernanda’s distinct features. With a reverent touch, she lit each sparkler, as though performing a delicate ritual.
As the last sparklers flickered, she pulled them from the ground, twirling them playfully in her hands. Laughter bubbled from her as she drew shapes in the air, waving the sparklers in front of Cristian, creating a whimsical, glowing trail.
Cristian couldn’t help but be swept up in her infectious joy, his laughter joining hers.
The ground shimmered with the remnants of fireworks, and the sparklers in her hands burned with a vibrant glow, as if she were enveloped by a constellation of stars. Each burst of light chased away the shadows, filling the air with a warmth that banished the night’s gloom.
Fernanda’s laughter was unstoppable as she danced around Cristian, her hands never empty, each sparkler lighting up the sky in turn. For the first time, Cristian saw her with such genuine happiness, as if she had been gifted the most cherished treasure—a happiness that radiated from deep within.
No grand gestures or extravagant presents were necessary; a simple box of cookies and a few sparklers were all it took to bring her this much joy. She found happiness in the simplest things.
However, the more Cristian saw her so content, the more his heart ached with quiet sorrow. After what felt like an eternity, Fernanda finally ran out of sparklers, and with a soft sigh, she stopped. She sank onto the ground, her breath slow and steady.
The once-overbearing sky above now seemed endless and serene, a breathtaking canvas stretched wide before her. Fernanda glanced up at Cristian, who stood before her, and let out a gentle laugh. “Thanks for the sparklers. I had so much fun.”
With a gentle movement, Cristian lowered himself to her level, their eyes meeting. “You know why I lit so many sparklers here?” he asked.

“No,” Fernanda replied, her voice matter-of-fact. “Just out with it.”
A warm chuckle escaped Cristian, and he found himself charmed by this side of Fernanda—so genuine and straightforward.
“Besides letting you have fun, I have another reason for doing this,” he said with a smile, his voice softening.
Fernanda leaned in, her gaze fixed on him, a sense of anticipation in her eyes. “What do you mean?”
“I wanted to light up this space so that it would be the first thing you saw when you stepped outside,” Cristian said, his voice sincere as he met her eyes. “Even if the darkness surrounds you, I want to be the light that leads you forward.”
