Chapter 570
Chapter 570:
Fernanda simply nodded in response.
“I see. Go get some rest.”
“Goodnight,” Fernanda said before heading straight to her room. Once inside, she took off her coat and tossed it onto a chair before throwing herself onto the bed. Then, hugging the quilt tightly, she rolled around, a surge of excitement coursing through her. Her mind was still replaying the events from earlier.
She picked up her phone, opened her chat with Wendy, and typed a simple message: “I’m in love.”
Her thumb hovered over the send button, but she couldn’t bring herself to press it. It felt too embarrassing. After a moment of hesitation, she sighed and deleted the message. She decided to tell Wendy in person when school started.
Alone in her room, her thoughts began to settle. Cristian’s face came to mind—the way he spoke, his expressions, and even the subtle gestures he made during their conversation. The more she thought about him, the more her cheeks flushed. Her heart raced, and an overwhelming sense of sweetness bubbled up.
For the first time, she had a boyfriend! At last, she was in love with someone.
Fernanda grabbed another cookie from the box beside her and nibbled on it. Even though it was cold and had gone a little hard, it didn’t bother her. Nothing could dampen her spirits tonight.
She reached for two more Christmas cookies and placed them carefully next to Hiram’s framed photo on her nightstand.
She murmured softly, “Hiram, someone finally cares for me as much as you did.”
The next morning, Fernanda woke to find several Christmas gifts waiting for her. Robert, Michelle, and Ector had each left her a beautifully wrapped present. Even Selma, though reluctant, had handed her one as well. Fernanda accepted them all with a radiant smile. After all, who could complain about receiving too many gifts on Christmas morning?
Later that morning, Bobby called and invited Fernanda to the Harper family’s house in two days. She agreed. It was the perfect opportunity to explain everything to the Harper family and formally end her engagement with Bobby.

After the call, Fernanda sighed. She had hoped to visit Hiram’s grave before the New Year, but her plans were dashed. The Morgan family home was bustling that day, with a steady stream of relatives and friends she barely recognized.
She considered going to her room. However, Robert insisted she stay and reminded her that these visitors had come specifically to see her. He said it would be rude for her to hide away. Fernanda didn’t want to create unnecessary tension, so she stayed. She told herself inwardly that being stared at wasn’t the worst thing. While the conversations buzzed around her, she spent the time chatting with Cristian and occasionally playing games on her phone.
By afternoon, Cristian invited her out. Feeling suffocated by the endless chatter at home, Fernanda grabbed her coat and headed out to meet him.
