Chapter 586
Chapter 586:
“Why didn’t you invite your friend over?” Doris nudged Jensen playfully. “It’s Christmas; no one should be eating alone.”
“There’s a crowd today, and he didn’t want to intrude,” Jensen replied quietly. “Besides, he’s an adult; he won’t go hungry.”
“I just don’t want him feeling left out. He came all this way to spend Christmas in Zhota. We should make him feel welcome,” Doris insisted.
“It’s okay, really,” Jensen assured her.
Doris watched him walk away, then turned back to Fernanda with a warm smile. “Jensen studied architecture and is interning at a construction firm. He has a friend who seems to have no family. He’s been joining us for meals recently—just not today. That’s why I asked.”
During the meal, conversation turned to how Fernanda was adapting to life in Esaham. Doris mentioned that Jensen was considering staying there after his internship.
To everyone’s surprise, Jensen spoke up, “I might not head there. My friend doesn’t want to.”
“Why not? Esaham’s a fantastic city, full of opportunities,” Doris argued.
Jensen simply shook his head. “I don’t know why, but he’s got something against Esaham. Says he’ll go anywhere but there.”
“Then you should go on your own,” Doris advised gently. “Don’t let him hold you back. We all have our own paths to choose.”
Jensen nodded and continued his meal, though his eyes kept wandering toward Fernanda, his cheeks flushing whenever their gazes nearly met.
After thanking Doris for her warm hospitality, Fernanda and Cristian left.
In the car, Cristian gently squeezed Fernanda’s hand. She looked at him, slightly puzzled.

Cristian leaned back in his seat, a relaxed, charming expression on his face, mischief dancing in his dark eyes. With a knowing grin, he teased, “Doris’s son seems to have a bit of a crush on you, doesn’t he?”
Fernanda leaned back, her eyes widening in surprise as she locked gazes with Cristian. He wore a calm expression, his eyes soft yet underscored by a hint of something darker, something Fernanda couldn’t quite place.
“Well,” she retorted, doubt coloring her voice, “I don’t think so.”
Cristian snorted, one eyebrow arching playfully. He mulled over her words, his teeth clenched as if chewing on them, then let a sly grin spread across his face.
“Are you actually jealous?” Fernanda challenged, her expression a mix of amusement and irritation. “Okay, I’ll admit Jensen once confessed his romantic feelings for me, but let’s leave the past in the past.”
Pleased by her openness, Cristian started the car.
