An uncomfortable tension gnawed at Hertha, yet she felt powerless to do anything about it. She quickly dialed her assistant, providing her location and requesting a pick-up.
The car arrived swiftly. The door slid open with a soft hum, and Hertha slid in without hesitation.
“Ms. Hewitt, how did your meeting go?” The assistant glanced over, seeing Hertha slouched against the seat, her energy drained.
Exhaustion weighed heavily on Hertha, and she remained silent, not responding.
The assistant, perceptive and intuitive, sensed her mood without needing words. She turned back to face forward, a quiet sigh escaping her lips.
A popular talent show was taking the spotlight lately, and Bloom Group, a dominant player in the entertainment world, had sent several contestants. Among them were girls from Hertha’s group—less renowned than her, but still rising stars.
Those girls were thriving on the show. At this rate, it was inevitable—they would eclipse Hertha’s fame once the show wrapped up. That future seemed bleak, and Hertha couldn’t help but feel the pressure mounting.
“Don’t worry too much,” the assistant said gently. “When one door closes, another opens. We’ll figure out a way to secure resources from Mr. Perkins.”
Hertha let out a half-hearted hum, her mind clouded with doubt. Sutton Perkins was a prominent figure in the film industry. His films had launched many actresses into stardom.
Recently, rumors swirled that he was gearing up to direct an art film focused on education in underdeveloped areas, with a casting call for fresh talent. Naturally, the opportunity sparked fierce competition among actresses.
Securing this role would solve all of Hertha’s current problems.
This, in fact, was the real reason she had sought out Vinson earlier.
Her connections to Sutton were nonexistent, but Vinson was another story. With his vast network, even if he didn’t know Sutton personally, there were certainly people in his circle who could help.

The following day, as Fernanda made her way to the library, she was stopped at the entrance to her dorm. A figure cloaked in a mask and sunglasses blocked her path.
“Ms. Morgan, it’s me,” came a familiar voice. The stranger removed their disguise, revealing Hertha.
Fernanda’s gaze remained composed, her voice calm. “What do you want?”
Having overheard Hertha’s name mentioned at the bar the previous evening, Fernanda wasn’t at all surprised to find her standing there now.
“Can we have a conversation?” Hertha’s voice carried an earnestness.
“I’m afraid I don’t have the time,” Fernanda replied coolly, adjusting the stack of books in her hands. “With finals approaching, my schedule is packed.”
