Chapter 741
Chapter 741:
In a swift motion, Bonita tried to walk away, but Beckett caught her arm, halting her.
“Bonita, what’s it going to take for you to wake up?” Beckett roared, frustration and anger dripping from his words. “His father hurt you before, and you still don’t get it? Why are you holding onto this obsession? If I hadn’t saved you that day, do you have any idea what kind of hell you’d be living in now? Maybe you’d be trapped in a life with no escape! So many girls like you may have suffered because of him! And after everything, you’re still thinking about dating his son? Are you considering a future with him? Don’t you usually despise people like that? Why can’t you see the truth now?”
Bonita felt every word hit her like a physical blow, the sharpness of Beckett’s tone making her head spin and her ears ring.
Her lips parted, pale and trembling, but no sound came. She was at a loss for words.
Beckett was right—how could she argue against what he said? Everything he pointed out was undeniable.
Her hatred for evil had always been strong; she’d raged online for hours about the news of wrongdoing. And yet, here she was, facing a situation where the very person she cared for was the son of the man she despised.
Never before had Bonita been in such a dilemma, and for once, she had no clue how to respond.
“Please, stop,” she murmured, pushing Beckett away once again. “I need time to think. Just leave me alone.”
“Then I’ll take you home.”
“I don’t need you to,” Bonita said, shaking her head firmly as she walked toward the street. “I’ll catch a taxi myself.”
Without a word, Beckett kept pace beside her, his umbrella still hovering over her head, shielding her from the rain.
A chill gnawed at Bonita, making her hunch her shoulders tighter, the poster pressed close to her chest for warmth.

At the curb, Beckett flagged down a taxi, holding the door open for Bonita before slipping into the front seat and giving the driver directions to Luminary University.
The entire ride passed in silence. Whenever Beckett glanced over, he found her with her head bowed, an unreadable expression on her face. Bonita couldn’t recall much about how she made it to her dorm. It was as though her mind had been on autopilot. By the time her thoughts gathered, she was seated in a chair, disoriented. She had a faint memory of Beckett escorting her back.
Despite it being summer break, with fewer students on campus, the dorm rules remained: no boys allowed in the girls’ dorms.
Though she was sure Beckett had said something before he left, she couldn’t hold onto any of it.
The dampness of her clothes clung to her skin, a constant discomfort. A sudden sneeze startled Bonita, followed by the urge to escape into the bathroom.
It wasn’t until warm water cascaded over her that the cold that had settled into her body started to melt. However, even with the heat, there was a deep, aching chill inside her, one that went beyond her skin, sinking into her chest and making her teeth chatter.
