Chapter 882:

A brisk wind blew, prompting Fernanda to wrap her coat tighter around herself. She wasn’t dressed warmly enough for the winter chill, and the cold air bit at her skin, especially at the nape of her neck, chilling her to the core.

Despite being her mother’s hometown, Silendale didn’t feel special or different from Esaham. It was just as lonely, but back in Esaham, at least she had friends.

The realization brought a bitter smile to her face.

Her phone buzzed with a new message. It was from Cristian, asking what she was up to.

“Just had dinner with my mother’s side of the family,” she typed quickly.

“Where are you staying tonight?”

“A hotel. My uncle and aunts offered their places, but I chose a hotel for convenience.”

“Which hotel?”

Fernanda chuckled at his barrage of questions. “Silendale Hotel. Why all the curiosity? Don’t tell me you’re planning to keep me company tonight.”

“If you want, I can definitely make that happen.”

Fernanda responded with a playful sticker and put her phone away.

Just then, a gust of wind swept up a plastic bag from the ground. She turned her back to the wind, shielding her face from the cold.

That’s when she noticed a familiar figure.

A few meters back stood the man she had just been messaging.

Cristian had shown up unexpectedly in this unfamiliar town. There he was, right in front of her.

Fernanda was taken aback by Cristian’s unexpected presence.

The chilly night wind whipped her hair around, stinging her eyes. She blinked, trying to confirm that she wasn’t imagining things.

Cristian stood there, his knee-length gray wool coat open over a neatly tailored suit and tie, as though he had just come from a meeting.

He held a half-smoked cigarette, its glowing ember the only light in her view.

He walked over, snuffed out the cigarette, and tossed it into a nearby trash can. Then, he took off his coat and placed it around her shoulders, making sure it fit snugly.

The coat, still holding his warmth, shielded her from the biting cold.

She looked up at him, her voice soft and inviting. “What are you doing here?”

“I missed you,” he replied, taking her hand as they entered the hotel.

Cristian handled the check-in, while Fernanda watched him sign the form with a firm stroke of a black pen.

His features were composed, his lips slightly pursed. He tried to appear cheerful, but his eyes betrayed a hint of trouble.
