Chapter 91:

Before Fernanda could react to Kevin’s words, Ector cut in sharply, “Kevin! You’ve really crossed the line!”

Kevin, feeling no remorse, raised his chin with defiance. “Didn’t you say she’s impressive? If she’s so great, why not face off with me?” Without warning, Kevin kicked the back of Fernanda’s chair with force. “Hey, do you dare to compete?”

“If I lose, I’ll leave the Morgan family. But what about you if you lose?” Fernanda asked coolly, her gaze sliding sideways to Kevin.

“How could I possibly lose?” Kevin said, his confidence unwavering as he believed defeat was out of the question.

“But a bet needs stakes for both sides, doesn’t it? I can’t be the only one risking something.” Fernanda’s laugh was cold. “Or are you just too scared to confront me?”

“Are you joking? What could I be afraid of?” Kevin shot back.

“Go ahead and make your bet.” Fernanda’s voice grew icy. “I don’t have time to waste on this.”

Perhaps it was the chill in Fernanda’s voice that made Ector feel uneasy. He glanced at her, noticing her calm demeanor, mixed with an air of pride, as if Kevin’s challenge meant nothing to her. There was no trace of fear in her expression.

Two minutes passed, and Kevin still hadn’t answered.

“If you don’t name your bet now, I’ll assume you’re scared,” Fernanda said.

“Scared? How could I be scared?” Kevin snapped. “Alright, I’ll match your bet. If I lose, I’ll leave the house. And whenever you’re home, I won’t even show my face around you. How about that?”

He figured it would be a relief to get away from her, avoiding the…

Trouble altogether.

If he moved out, he’d finally have some peace.

“That’s not fair, is it? I’m just a poor girl. If I leave the Morgan family, I’d be out on the streets. But you? You’re a rich boy. Even if you leave, you’ll still live like royalty. Our stakes aren’t even close to being the same, are they?”

Kevin cursed under his breath. He hadn’t expected her to think of that.

“So, what do you propose?” he asked, frustration rising in his voice. He was the one who proposed the challenge. If he backed down now, Fernanda would definitely label him a coward.

“How about this?” Fernanda suggested, pointing to the busy city center outside the window. “If you lose, you’ll stand right there with a megaphone and shout three times, ‘I, Kevin, am a loser.’ What do you think?”

Kevin’s eyes shot wide open in disbelief. He wondered if he had heard wrong. How could anyone suggest such a humiliating challenge?

“Are you fucking crazy?” Kevin sneered, his disdain for Fernanda deepening. “Are you trying to embarrass me on purpose?”

“Come on, you are the one who wanted to challenge me,” Fernanda replied, her tone as cold as ice. “Do you have the guts?”

She understood Kevin all too well. Stripping him of his dignity would hit hard. Since Kevin had thrown down the gauntlet, Fernanda decided to raise the stakes.

“If you’re brave enough, then agree. Ector is here, so he can witness it.”

She turned to Kevin once more, her gaze sharp. “Do you dare?” Her eyes sparkled, and when a car’s headlights shone in, Kevin saw her face—calm, steady, and cold, like a wolf watching its prey, with a fierce look he couldn’t quite describe.

A sharp pang of fear struck him unexpectedly. Regret washed over him. He wished he had kept his mouth shut and not challenged Fernanda.

“Alright, let’s do this,” Kevin shouted, trying to mask his nerves. “I’m not scared.”

His voice rang out, loud and firm—whether to rattle Fernanda or to reassure himself.

He was sure of his skills in competitive gaming and couldn’t believe Fernanda would be any match for him.

Hold on…

Kevin suddenly remembered that Erika had mentioned Fernanda had taken the entrance exam for the prestigious Esaham University, with a major in competitive gaming. And her scores were off the charts.

“Damn,” Kevin muttered. He had seriously underestimated her.

But what was done was done, and there was no way to back out now. He couldn’t help but regret his impulsiveness, and the anxiety only grew.

On their way back, he sat in silence, weighed down by his thoughts, not saying a word.

As soon as they reached the Morgan family villa, he rushed out of the car and into the house without looking back.

He knew he had to put in serious work and get ready. There was no way he could afford to lose.

Kevin made up his mind to spend the next few days practicing.

Nonstop, maybe even sparring with some experts to sharpen his skills. Losing was out of the question. The very thought of standing in the city center, holding a megaphone, and shouting that he was a loser made him cringe.

The idea was so unbearable that he couldn’t even picture it clearly. There was no way he was going to let Fernanda have the satisfaction of humiliating him like that. He was going to give it everything he had.

It was late, and the rest of the family was already asleep, so no one knew they had come home at that hour.

The next morning, as everyone gathered for breakfast, Selma casually asked about Kevin.

She was told that he had left early, skipping breakfast and saying he was going out to hang with friends.

Fernanda suspected he was off practicing his skills with them. Kevin was confident, but not in an overly arrogant way.

Since Fernanda’s foot was injured, Robert expressed his concern and advised her to stay home and rest, so she would be able to attend the Esaham University opening ceremony later on.

After all, it was an event where the parents of new students were invited, and Robert was all ready to go.

Many influential people were alumni of Esaham University, and Robert often felt out of place without a similar educational background. But now, as the father of a student there, he felt more connected to those influential figures.

Michelle also showed concern for Fernanda, but Selma stayed silent. In fact, as Fernanda headed upstairs after breakfast, she overheard Selma muttering something unpleasant about her.

Fernanda didn’t feel like engaging in an argument. Some people just liked to provoke others, but she had no interest in sinking to that level.

Once she was back in her room, her phone buzzed. It was a short…

It was a message from Cristian: “Check the news.”

She opened the news app and immediately saw the headline about Ava’s sinister plot against her. The news spread rapidly, far quicker than she had expected. Within hours, it had turned into a viral sensation.

She was pleased with how things had unfolded, but it still wasn’t enough.
