Chapter 982:

When they reached a run-down little house tucked into a corner, Bobby let out a sigh.

Unlike the other villas, which had their own unique charm, this one looked abandoned. The iron gate was covered in rust. Weeds crawled through the yard, patches of the walls were flaking, and the empty windows gave the place a hollow, unsettling feel.

From the way Bobby sighed, Fernanda already knew who it belonged to. Curran’s dislike for Cristian was impossible to ignore.

“But it doesn’t matter,” Bobby said with an easy smile. “Cristian doesn’t care about this place. He owns so many properties he can’t even use them all. Why would he care about some run-down building? It’s not worth stressing over. Come on, let’s go. Nothing here to see.”

Cristian didn’t care?

Saying it didn’t matter was one thing. But acting like it had never had any meaning was another.

Fernanda understood that feeling well. Growing up without much family affection had left her longing for it in ways most people wouldn’t understand.

Wouldn’t Cristian feel the same?

He never talked about it, but she knew.

No one would ever see being loved by more people as a bad thing. Some things in life were choices, but not everything. It was one thing to turn your back on something. It was another to never have had the choice at all. Just like this house. Cristian might never plan to live here again, but that didn’t mean he’d be indifferent to how abandoned it had become.

Because, at the end of the day, this building reflected how his family felt about him.

Curran stayed upstairs for the rest of the afternoon. When he finally came down for dinner, he ate in complete silence, not sparing Fernanda a single glance.

This was how he showed his disapproval—quiet and deliberate.

After dinner, Fernanda sat on the couch, debating whether she should leave and find a hotel for the night. Curran was upset with her. Maybe it was best to go.

Before she could decide, Pamela approached her. “The guest room’s ready,” she said. “Go up whenever you’re tired.” Fernanda gave a quick thanks.

She was scrolling through her phone absentmindedly when she tapped on Curran’s WhatsApp. The post he had created to find eligible bachelors for her was gone.

She opened their chat and sent a simple “Good evening” emoji. As expected, the message didn’t go through.

Curran had blocked her.

Fernanda sighed and rubbed her temples.

Just then, Bobby walked past and caught a glimpse of her screen. He burst out laughing. “Damn. That’s not a good sign. I need to call for backup,” he said.
