Chapter 778
Mrs. Stapleton was visibly stunned. "What did you say your relationship was?"
Natalie took a deep breath. "First of all, Marico is an adult. You have no right to send him abroad against his will, let alone lock him up. Secondly, he isn't a lost cause. I think he's great. As long as we give him enough care and trust, he can become an even better person."
It was perhaps the first time Mrs. Stapleton had ever heard someone describe her son as 'great.' She found it unbelievable and suddenly viewed the woman standing before her as something of an anomaly.
“He almost killed a man. If we don't lock him up, it's only a matter of time before a real tragedy happens."
"You said it yourself-almost."
"Can you guarantee he won't do it again?"
Natalie bit her lip. How could she possibly guarantee that?
"You just said he's your fiancé, right?"
"Actually, I..."
"I approve of the marriage."
Natalie blinked. She had been about to confess she was joking. "Mrs. Stapleton, whether I marry him or not has nothing to do with sending him abroad.”
"Of course it does. If you marry him, we'll hand him over to you. If he causes any more trouble, you'll be the one held responsible. As his parents, we can wash our hands of the whole mess."
"You treat him like a burden. As long as you can toss him aside, you'll feel relieved?”
Mrs. Stapleton nodded. "If you want to put it that way, yes."
Natalie had never met parents who despised their own child this much. In that moment, her confusion faded into a deep ache of sympathy for Marico.
"Fine. I'll marry him. Leave him to me."
Hearing her agreement, Mrs. Stapleton let out a massive sigh of relief.
"Once you're married, we will all live our separate lives. Unless absolutely necessary, there will be no need to stay in touch."
With that, Mrs. Stapleton walked into the hospital room.
She didn't ask about Marico's injuries, nor did she spare him a second glance. The moment she stepped inside, she declared, “I have agreed to let you and Ms. Taylor get married."
Norton Stapleton tried to intervene but failed, leaving Marico staring in utter bewilderment.
"Who said I'm marrying her?"
Mrs. Stapleton narrowed her eyes. "You better think this through. If you don't marry her, we're sending you abroad."
"What gives you the right..."
"With your father's connections, do you really think we need your permission?"
"I cut ties with you people a long time ago! You have no right to control me!"
"The right comes from the fact that when you mess up, people still point their fingers at us! You're a constant embarrassment! But if you get married and screw up again, everyone will blame your wife for failing to keep you in line!" .net
Those two sentences made everything perfectly clear to Marico. His parents just wanted to shift the blange de glanced at Natalie realizing the foolish woman was actually standing there, ready to take on his chaotic life.
Marico let out a cynical smirk. “I am never getting married!"
"You!"
"I'm going to embarrass you for the rest of your lives. You brought me into this world, and you will never get rid of me!"
Mrs. Stapleton was blinded by fury. Trembling all over, she pointed a furious finger at him. "What sins did I commit in my past life? Ever strice you were born, I haven't had a single day of peace!"
She pulled out her phone. "I'm calling your father right now. I'll have him send a security detail to drag you out of the country. Don't even dream of coming back. You're gone forever!"
Natalie chewed her lower lip, biting down hard again and again until she couldn't hold back anymore. She stepped forward to stop Mrs. Stapleton. “I will marry him. Just leave him to me!"
