"Ten thousand dollars? Are you robbing me?"

When she heard the price of the earrings, Mrs. Sullivan couldn't help but shriek.

"I have the receipt. You can look it up," Penelope said calmly.

"My son probably bought them for you anyway!"

"Actually, no. On his salary, he couldn't afford them."

"You-!"

"Maybe I should just call Lilian. I'm sure she wouldn't have so many complaints."

"Don't call her!" Mrs. Sullivan snapped. "I'll pay. I'll pay for it."

Just then, Zebulon and Rebecca arrived to the sight of Mrs. Sullivan on her hands and knees, clutching her back and sorting through the pile, her face flushed and beaded with sweat. She looked utterly pathetic.

The moment she saw them, her eyes turned red.

"Penelope, how could you treat our mother like this?" Zebulon barked.

Our mother?

Penelope laughed. "She's the one who threw my things on the ground. Shouldn't she be the one to pick them up?"

"That doesn't matter! She's your elder!"

"Age makes you an elder? What about those who use their age to bully others?"

"Besides, I didn't force her. I was cleaning it up myself when she insisted on taking over. I thought she had finally seen reason and decided to clean up her own mess."

Zebulon looked at his mother in disbelief. Mrs. Sullivan opened her mouth, but she didn't dare vent her true feelings.

"I... I wanted to do it."

The words came out as a choked sob.

Rebecca immediately put on her concerned act. "Penelope, we know you're angry, but you can't take it out on an old woman! Let me help you, ma'am."

Penelope had no objection to Rebecca helping Mrs. Sullivan. In fact, she quite enjoyed the sight of the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law duo getting along so well.

Just then, Rebecca picked up a purple music box and noticed a corner was chipped.

"Penelope, I remember how much you loved this music box," she said, holding it up for her to see.

Penelope walked over and took it, her fingers tracing the damaged edge. She let out a soft sigh.

"I gave that to you on our

hundred-day anniversary," Zebulon said, stepping closer. The sight of the music box seemed to bring back fond memories of their early day together, and his eyes softened.

"Don't worry. I'll buy you a new one."

“Some things, once they're broken, can't be fixed," Penelope said, he voice flat. "And buying a new one loses the original meaning. It's just trash now. With that, she threw the music box back onto the ground.

It shattered with a sharp crack.

Zebulon's brow furrowed. "Penelope, must you be so relentless?"

"Zebulon, you said you would divorce me as soon as the KINY

Group project was done and make

me regret it well, I don't think you'll I be getting that project, but we are still getting a divorce. How about tomorrow?"

"You want to divorce me?" he asked, his face a mask of disbelief.

His surprise was so genuine that Penelope had to laugh.

"Are you suggesting I wouldn't want to?"

"Of course you wouldn't!"

"And why is that, Zebulon? What part of you is so hard to let go of?"

His face flushed a deep red. "Fine! Divorce! You'll be the one to regret it!"

"I have my dignity. I won't."

"You... you better think this through!"

"Can you just be a man for once and stop talking?"

"Fine! We'll get a divorce tomorrow!"
