Chapter 1058
"This project has to be completed within two years of its launch so we can recoup the funds quickly."
Sebastian's front had failed too. If he had gotten everything from Sebastian, he wouldn't be in such a difficult position now.
Over a decade of planning, over a decade of effort-all for nothing.
Joanna understood. She nodded. "Everything for after the New Year is already arranged, Maxwell. Don't worry."
Her voice was slightly hoarse. She was furious, too.
Maxwell Griffith was livid, glaring at Joanna. "I don't know what kind of spell Natalie put on Maxwell, but not only did he not kill her, he's now helping her."
The more he thought about it, the angrier and more frustrated he became.
They had let their prize slip right through their fingers.
Joanna didn't speak. Maxwell wanted to live a good life, too. No one so young wants to go to prison.
Natalie had simply seized on Maxwell's desires and convinced him to switch sides.
Joanna was on edge. “Let's go back, Maxwell. Tomorrow is New Year's Eve. We'll deal with the rest after the holidays. After the New Year, we will make a brilliant comeback."
Maxwell Griffith grunted in agreement. "Mhm."
Joanna closed her eyes, but just then, her phone rang.
Joanna picked it up and saw it was Nora. Her heart sank; she had a bad feeling.
She quickly answered the call.
"Hello?"
"Ms. Scott, it's bad! Someone reported our company for the illegal acquisition of the Wilson Group. The authorities are here at the company, and they have evidence. Ms. Scott, help me."
"What?!" Joanna was stunned. Who could have reported them this time?
Nora said, "Ms. Scott, you know how we got Mr. Wilson's company. We did engage in some shady dealings behind the scenes, but never e. thought we'd get caught. Didn't you say all the evidence was destroyed?"
"The authorities showed up right after I finished setting things up at the company. If this can't be resolved the subsidiary will be shut down Nora was worried. She had built the company from the ground up and couldn't bear to see it collapse.
Joanna closed her eyes, her long lashes trembling. If the authorities already had evidence, it was too late.
Nora was done for. But there was still a chance to salvage the situation.
Nora was one of her key players, her right-hand woman. Losing Nora would be a major blow to her company.
"It's okay. Let them investigate for now. In the end, push all the blame onto Mr. Wilson's nephews. I prepared a failsafe when we signed the contracts with them. You'll be fine but the company will take a huge hit."
As long as Nora was safe, the company's losses could be recovered.
Hearing this, Nora instantly knew what to do. "Ms. Scott, I understand. Don't worry, I'll handle it. I'll minimize the company's losses."
Joanna said, “Good. Nora, you're the one I trust most. I'll raise your annual salary to three million dollars. You've worked hard these past few days.”
Nora was delighted. "Thank you, Ms. Scott! I'll go deal with the company matters now."
Joanna hung up.
There were tears in her eyes, but she closed them, refusing to let them fall. She
silently vowed to make Natalie's life a living hell.
This had to be connected to Natalie and Marshall.
Seeing her distress, Maxwell Griffith asked softly, "Joanna, what happened with the company?"
