Stefan dialed Camille’s number as Hannah continued her digital battle. The phone rang once, twice, three times before Camille’s sleepy voice answered.
“Stefan? It’s three-thirty in the morning. What’s wrong?”
“Camille, you need to get to Victoria’s hospital room right now. Someone is planning to attack her, to attack all of you. Hannah and I are trying to stop them, but you need to be with Victoria in case they try something physical.”
“What are you talking about?”
“The Guardian, Alexander’s contact. He planned to destroy Victoria with false media reports this morning. We’re stopping the cyber attack, but he might escalate to violence.”
The line went quiet for a moment. “Are you serious?”
“Dead serious. Please, just get to the hospital. Bring security. Don’t trust anyone you don’t know personally.”
“I’m leaving right now.”
As Stefan hung up, Hannah let out a triumphant shout. “Got them! I’ve replaced all the false documents across every major news platform. When they try to publish at six AM, the real story will come out instead of their fabricated lies.”
“Is it over?”
Hannah’s expression was grim as she monitored her screens. “No. Look at this.” She pointed to a new data stream showing massive file transfers from an unknown source. “Someone is uploading gigabytes of new evidence to smaller news outlets, blogs, and social media platforms. They’re flooding the internet with false information faster than I can stop it.”
Stefan felt despair creeping in. “Can you stop all of it?”
“Not all of it. But I can make sure the major outlets have the truth.” Hannah’s voice was determined despite her exhaustion. “Stefan, we need help. This is bigger than just the two of us can handle.”
“What kind of help?”
“Federal help. FBI cybercrimes division. This operation is too sophisticated for amateur hackers. The Guardian has resources that suggest government or military training.”
Stefan nodded, pulling out his phone again. “I’ll call Senator Alvarez. If anyone can get the FBI involved quickly, it’s him.”
