Chapter 291

"Dexter, how is Angie?" With a pale face, Zack rushed over from the other end of the corridor so fast that his coat billowed in the wind. He seemed extremely

anxious.

Dexter woke up with a start. Staring at Zack's worried face, he was momentarily at a loss for words.

Zack gritted his teeth fiercely. "Logan has to be the one who's behind this-it can only be that bastard! Angie just fired him, and he immediately retaliated. He's utterly heartless and vicious. With the way he hurts people-he deserves to die!"

"Matters like this need to be thoroughly investigated; we can't just spout baseless accusations," Fiona piped up.

Tears welled in Zack's eyes as he punched the air in fury. "Damn it! If I find out who hurt her, I'll make sure they pay with their life!"

"I will look into this." Dexter, who had been silent, finally found his voice. "I'll have someone look into it immediately. Whoever it is, I'll make sure they pay."

Soon, what happened to Angela went viral. Everyone who needed to know her condition—and even those who didn't-rushed over at once.

Natalie and Joseph both came. By that time, Angela had already been transferred from the emergency room to the intensive care unit. As they looked at her pale face in the hospital bed, the two wiped their tears repeatedly.

Finn and Callum also came by. Finn, seething with anger, grabbed Dexter by the collar and punched him twice-so hard that Dexter's lip split open, leaving a gruesome wound.

Finn's uncontrollable fury completely shattered everyone's impression of him as a gentle and refined man.

He demanded, almost desperately, to know why Dexter hadn't taken better care of Angela and how he could let such a terrible thing happen that nearly cost her life. Dexter was left speechless, silently enduring Finn's cutting, icy words.

"If I'd been the one by her side, I wouldn't have let her get hurt like this," Finn declared. "Dexter, if you're so incompetent, give her back to me."

Those simple sentences hit Dexter, as though a bucket of icy water had been poured right over his head.

He suddenly snapped, "No. She's my wife! She has nothing to do with you, Finn- not in the past, not now, and never in the future!"

At that moment, Dexter suddenly became clear-headed.

Unknowingly, his admiration, fondness, and bias toward Angela had gradually transformed into passionate love. This overwhelming emotion burst forth, and for the first time, he truly understood his own heart.

All his overthinking, hesitation, and second-guessing had only made him miss out

on her, pushing her further away from him each time.

That wouldn't do. He had to show it. He had to let her know all about his love and feelings for her!

Callum led Finn away, while Fiona quickly dispersed the rest of the onlookers.

Soon, only the three of them were left in the hospital room.

"Dexter, what you said to Finn just now... about how you and Angela are..." Fiona began tentatively, her eyes glancing at the pale figure lying in the hospital bed. A fresh wave of heartache washed over her

Slowly, Dexter raised his head. With a cold, determined gaze fixed on Fiona, he said, "I love her."

Fiona was utterly stunned. She stared at him in disbelief, hardly able to trust her ears. It was, by all accounts, the very first time in Dexter's life that he had uttered those three words.

Fiona was unexpectedly moved. This was a good sign. No matter what, at least he was finally willing to admit it.

...

The next morning, Logan, who had

been preparing to flee to another state, was caught. Zack had been right-the one who had ordered mechanic to sabotage the brake system on Angela's car was none other than Logan.
