Chapter 1010
Leaning down, he pressed his cool palm flat against her burning cheek and gently traced his thumb over her cracked lips.
He wrestled with himself for a fleeting second.
He knew exactly what he was doing. He was taking advantage of her vulnerability.
When she woke up, she was going to be furious.
But he just couldn't bring himself to let go of this rare moment of intimacy.
In his mind, she was still his wife.
And a husband kissing his wife was entirely justified.
So, he lowered his head and pressed his lips softly against hers.
Claire's fever finally broke in the early hours of the morning.
When she opened her eyes, she felt sticky with sweat.
Her throat felt like it had been scrubbed with sandpaper, dry and agonizing.
She tried to sit up to grab a drink, but as she shifted, she suddenly realized a heavy arm was draped firmly over her waist.
At the exact same moment, a deep voice murmured from right behind her, "Thirsty again?"
He grabbed the glass from the nightstand and handed it to her, using his other hand to feel her forehead.
After checking a few times, he let out a breath of relief. "The fever's gone."
The shock in Claire's eyes instantly morphed into a frigid, murderous glare. She shoved the glass away and threw the blankets off, scrambling to get out of the bed.
But having just fought off a brutal fever, her body betrayed her.
Her legs turned to jelly, entirely unable to hold her weight, and she pitched forward. Felix shot out a hand and caught her.
She tumbled backward, straight onto the mattress.
Carried by the momentum, Felix ended up leaning heavily over her.
The second their eyes locked, something inside Felix snapped. He lowered his head, intent on kissing her.
This time, Claire violently wrenched her face away.
Instinct taking over, she raised her hand to slap him again, desperate to knock some sense into him.
But Felix was ready for it.
He caught her wrist in a vice grip and pinned it into the mattress beside her head.
Using his body weight to trap her completely, he stared down into her eyes with a smoldering intensity.
The overwhelming pressure of his dominant frame and the suffocating scent of his cologne crashed over her.
Claire instinctively tried to shrink away, eyeing him with sheer panic. "What the hell are you doing?"

Felix didn't answer. His gaze dropped heavily to the messy, open collar of her pajamas, his eyes darkening with undeniable hunger.
A second later, he lowered his body again...
"Let me go!" Claire thrashed wildly, turning her face as far away as possible.
"Why are you hiding?" Felix caught her other flailing wrist and easily pinned it next to the first.
His free hand slid down her cheek, his slightly calloused fingers trailing dangerously down her burning neck.
"You weren't fighting me off last night when you refused to let go of my hand."
His breath ghosted over her ear, searing hot and heavy with intent.
There was absolutely no mistaking what he wanted.
Claire realized exactly what he was trying to do.

debilitating fever.
This psycho was actually trying to force himself on her!
A wave of sheer, unadulterated revulsion surged through her, entirely eclipsing her physical weakness.
Claire stopped struggling. She looked straight up at him, her fever-bright eyes now frozen over with absolute, lethal disgust.
She stared at the handsome, detached face hovering just inches from hers, a mocking sneer pulling at her lips.
"Felix, are you completely out of your mind?"
Felix froze. His eyes narrowed dangerously, and his grip on her jaw tightened just a fraction. "What did you say?"
"I said," Claire spat, her voice weak but laced with pure venom.
"Trying to force yourself on me when I'm sick, delirious, and too weak to
fight back. Since when did
become such a pathetic creep?"
"There are thousands of women out there who would gladly sleep with you. Why
force me?"
