Chapter 903
Assuming Dylan wanted to discuss business regarding InnoCore, Noreen agreed to ride in his car.
She proactively brought up the topic.
Omniva Group still held a small fraction of InnoCore shares. Whether they kept them or sold them was entirely up to Dylan.
But she had barely started before Dylan cut her off.
He said, "I didn't come here to talk business. I have some personal things to discuss
with you."
Noreen frowned.
She wanted to get out, but it was too late.
The car was already merging onto the highway.
"I saw the Harborview news. Your engagement to Castle was fake, wasn't it?"
She wasn't surprised he figured it out.
And she had no intention of denying it.
To Dylan, this was incredible news.
He leaned in, his voice desperate. "You and Castle called it off, and my divorce is finalized. Does this mean we can..."
"No."
Noreen didn't even let him finish before shutting it down completely.
The hopeful smile on Dylan's face froze.
She made it crystal clear. "There is zero possibility between us."
"But you wavered before," Dylan argued, his voice rising in panic, carrying a nearly out-of-control tremor.
Noreen paused, her gaze softening slightly as she admitted the truth. "I did waver."
She didn't deny it.
Maybe it was because of that email.
Or maybe it was something else entirely.
Whatever the reason, she had genuinely considered him.
But the outcome had been a disaster.
"If you wavered once, why can't we try again?" His eyes pleaded with a raw,
agonizing desperation. He spoke quickly, terrified she would reject him again. "What
if this time is real?"
But Noreen's rejection remained absolute.
"I don't believe in 'what ifs'. The odds are just too small."
She didn't hesitate for a fraction of a second. Her tone was as calm and detached
as if they were reviewing a quarterly report.
Dylan slumped back against the leather seat, all the fight draining out of him.
Outside the window, the rain intensified.
Fat drops hammered against the glass, dropping visibility to less than a few hundred feet.
The driver navigated cautiously.
Sophia shrank into the front passenger seat, trying her hardest to become invisible.
Noreen instructed the driver. "Take the next exit. Drop Mr. Wilder off at Omniva Group first."
The driver complied.
Barely a minute after exiting the highway, the driver slammed on the brakes.
Sophia was thrown forward, smacking her forehead against the dashboard. "Why the sudden stop?"
groaned, rubbing her hea
"Someone blocked the road," the driver explained.
Thankfully, his reflexes had kicked in.
Sophia was about to roll down the
window and scream at whoever in et
was, but then a figure stepped out of the intercepting car Content.
She stuttered, "That... that's Mr. Harcourt."
Noreen's heart skipped a beat.
Seth was walking through the torrential downpour straight toward them.
She threw her door open before he could reach the car.
Sophia quickly handed her an umbrella.
The rain was brutal. In the short distance it took to cross the pavement, Seth was already soaked.
His wet hair plastered against his forehead, giving him a deeply broken, fragile look.
"Do you have a death wish? Why are you out in the rain again?" Noreen rushed forward, holding the umbreik high over his head.
Seth looked down at her. The corners of his eyes were rimmed with red, swimming with a terrified vulnerability.
Noreen grabbed his arm. "The rain is too heavy. Get in the car and we'll talk."
The moment her fingers brushed his skin, she realized something was horribly wrong.
He was burning up!
And his temperature was dangerously high!
Her chest tightened. She glanced at his car.
No driver.
He had driven himself here in this condition.
She was wearing heels and couldn't drive his car.
She dragged him back to hers.
Leaning down, she gave Dylan an apologetic look. "Dylan, I'm sorry, but you'll have to call a cab back. heed to get him to the hospital immediately."
