Chapter 112
Luca’s POV
The command center was buzzing with activity as the entire famiglia worked together to stop the line of cars from reaching the edge of the property. I have spikes in my arsenal. They are small missiles, perfect for taking out cars or small buildings. So, as I have one team here, sending coordinates to the missile launchers, I have another team reloading. Marabella’s plan is genius. I have an endless supply of them, whereas I don’t believe I would have enough bullets to take out the army sent to retrieve their king.
When we took out the first car at the front of the line, three more piled up with it, exploding the vehicles from spilled gas and exhaust. We tried to hit every third to fourth vehicle in line to cause the same effect as the first go round. Did the enemy learn the tactic and start dodging us to the best of their ability? Of course! But, that’s perfectly fine, because like I said… endless supply. Plus, I already have more on the way, along with some extra ammo and guns.
The biggest goal here is to stop them before they even get to the property line. However, if we can’t prevent the inevitable, we want to at least buy ourselves time until our back-up supply gets here. You know what the absolute worst thing to happen in war is? To run out of fucking ammo. I have too many people here that I love and need to protect, to allow the opportunity for that to happen.
Marabella paced the room, muttering to herself, catching my attention. It looked as if she was trying to formulate a back-up plan. I left the details to Trey and his understudies as I stood and attended to my wife. “Hey beautiful”, I uttered, putting my hands on her shoulders to stop her.
“Talk to me”, I said, cupping her cheeks. “I feel like we are sitting ducks”, she whispered. She looked around the room to make sure no one heard her, before she looked back up at me. “We aren’t, I can assure you that”, I said, kissing her forehead. I pulled her into a hug, trying my absolute best to console her.
Rex and Cal walked into the room, carrying two boxes of ammo and guns each. “Alright boss. This is what’s left after arming the men on the ground with a little extra. Of course, I pulled aside yours and the Mrs. before I handed out to the men”, Cal said, setting the boxes on the table.
Mara immediately reached for her favorite holsters and weapons. It was the same belt she wore when she came to find me when her father took me. I smiled as I knelt down and began helping her strap down. “Everything is going to be okay”, I whispered, looking up at her. She smiled softly and nodded, “I know”, she responded, running her fingers through my hair.
“Sir, our shipment is coming in the back”, Cal said, pulling my attention towards him. “Go unload it and bring it in”, I ordered. “Yes sir”, Cal said, turning and leaving the room. I stood from my position and put on my vest holster. The tension that surrounded us was heavy. But I knew with my girl by my side, we would come out on top.
“Sir, I think we may actually be getting down to livable numbers over here”, Trey said. I walked to where he was and looked over his shoulder at the screen. We did take out a drastic number of vehicles. But we cannot stop. “Fantastic, don’t let up”, I said, patting him on the shoulder. “Yes sir”, Trey smirked, focusing harder on the screen. If that was even possible for him at this point.
Marabella was strapped down and ready to go. She stood over Trey’s shoulder, watching the whole scene unfold. My phone dinged with a text message. I pulled it out of my pocket and checked the screen. Cal’s name appeared, ‘Spikes have been delivered to loaders’. Hell yeah.
“Cal says the reloaders have been stocked with more ammo”, I announced. “Light them puppies up”, I commanded. A collective war cry sounded through the room. Marabella sat down next to Trey and pulled a laptop in front of her. I wasn’t sure what she was doing. But it didn’t take long for her to be on the same screen as the rest of the room. “How did you do that?”, Trey asked. Asking the same question I wanted to.
“I am a quick study. I took a few computer classes in my freshman year of college. I didn’t care for it. But that didn’t mean I wasn’t good at it”, Mara answered, taking control of her own set of missiles and aiming at the motorcade. I watched Marabella in awe for a moment. Trey did the same, looking back and forth between his screen and hers. “Give me a status update guys”, I said, still standing over Mara’s shoulder.
“Only twenty or so vehicles left”, Mara answered. “Nineteen”, Trey said, as he took out another vehicle. All around the room my soldatos began to count down as they took out vehicles. I felt an immense wave of pride listening to them take out the enemy, one vehicle at a time. “There seems to be a few survivors running from the burning vehicles”, Marabella said out loud.
“We will clear them out soon”, I responded. “The remaining ten cars seem to be fleeing, Boss”, Trey said, looking over his shoulder at me. “Let them”, I said. My ultimate goal right now is the safety of my home. So if I have to go out later and find the little mother fuckers, that’s okay with me. As long as they aren’t at my front door.
I sent Cal a text to go ahead and send out two teams to take out any survivors. “Cease fire for now. If they start to come back, light them up. But for now, we are about to have people in the field, so we need to be careful”, I announced. “Yes sir”, the room said collectively.
“Come, Mara. Let’s go check on the family”, I said, putting my hand out to her. Marabella nodded her head, as she took my hand. “When we know that they are safe. I would like to go see my father”, Mara requested, once we were out of the room. “Absolutely, piccola”, I told her.
I took her back to the car, and up to the villa. My mother and two younger brothers were sitting in the living room when we walked into the house. “My goodness, Luca. What’s going on?”, my mother asked frantically. “Everything is okay, ma. We had a potential attack coming our way, but we warded it off”, I answered her, putting my hands on her shoulders.
“A potential attack. From who?”, Carlo asked, standing from his seat. “The details do not matter. What matters was that it was avoided”, I said, standing my ground. I know that if they knew who, then they would try to blame Mara. And that is the last thing she needs right now. She needs to be able to speak with her father with a clear mind. Not one clouded by other peoples persuasion.
Carlo and Marco both furrowed their eyebrows as they looked in Marabella’s direction. I stepped in front of her and smiled at my mother. “Well, we wanted to make sure you were safe. Unfortunately, we have more business to attend to today”, I said, excusing us from the room.
“Would you like to change, eat or drink something before we head over there?”, I asked Mara, as we stepped into the hall. “I need something to drink”, Mara nodded. “Preferably something strong”, she chuckled nervously. “Come, baby girl. How about we talk?”, I muttered, grabbing her hand and taking her to the kitchen.
