Chapter 70
Luca’s POV
I have a sickening feeling today. I’m not sure why, but I didn’t want Mara to leave my side today. My stomach is in knots and I haven’t been able to focus all day. It’s noon and I’m sitting in this stupid board meeting, as I wait for a message from either Mara or Rex that they made it home safely.
“What do you think, boss?”, Trenton said. He’s the head of the HR department. I have no idea what the hell is going on in this meeting, like I said, I’ve been distracted. “About what?”, I asked. As soon as the words left my mouth, my phone lit up with a phone call from Rex. “I’m sorry, I have to take this”, I said, standing from my chair and walking to the floor to ceiling windows that look over the town.
“What is it Rex?”, I asked, answering the call on the second ring. “Boss, she’s gone”, he said panicked. “What the fuck do you mean ‘gone’?”, I asked, my temper instantly flaring and my heart dropping. “She went to the restroom after class before we were going to leave. After five minutes she didn’t come out. So I knocked on the door. I had to kick it in because it was locked. She wasn’t there. Her bag was though, along with a few droplets of blood by the sink”, he explained.
I was already walking out of the conference room, Cal one step behind me. “How did they get her past you?”, I asked, ready to ring his fucking neck. “There was a window in the bathroom that they must have pulled her out of”, he answered nervously. “Look through the surviellence cameras and find out who took her and where”, I commanded. “Yes, boss”, he responded quickly.
I made another call to my tech genius, Trey. “Yes, boss?”, he answered the call on the first ring. “Find my wife, Trey. She was taken from campus”, I demanded. “On it, boss”, he answered promptly. I hung up the phone and climbed into the driver’s seat of my Maybach, as Cal got into the passenger seat. I headed towards the university, unsure of what else to do at the moment.
If anything happens to her, I will never forgive myself. ‘God, let her be okay’, I prayed. I had just pulled into the university parking lot when Trey called me back. I could see Rex walking towards the car, so I rolled down the window so that he could be part of the conversation.
“I found her, boss. A silver Concord took her to an abandoned house, just on the outskirts of town. I sent the address to your private screen, sir”, he said. “Good job”, I said, hanging up the phone. The abandoned house is only ten minutes away. “Get in Rex”, I ordered in a growl. Rex jumped into action and slid into the backseat.
I peeled out of the parking lot, burning rubber in my tracks. “I want a team there waiting for me when I arrive”, I said, looking over at Cal. “Yes sir”, he nodded. My nerves are so shot right now, the knot in my stomach only getting worse as I weave in and out of the traffic.
I pulled up in front of a run-down old house. Ten of my men stood by their vehicles awaiting my orders. I stepped out of the vehicle and walked towards the house. I stopped in the front and faced my men. “I want survivors. I want to know who did this and why. Do you understand?”, I asked deeply. “Yes sir”, they collectively said. “Move in”, I ordered.
Five of the men towed around to the back, while the other five followed me in the front. One by one we started clearing rooms with nothing in sight. Until a commotion down the hall caught our attention. “You fucking bitch”, a male voice yelled. I heard a hiss and then a thump. I was already in motion towards the door but picked up my pace when I heard his next words. Words that made my blood run cold.
“I’ll just kill you and fuck your dead body then, bitch”, he sneered. I busted through the door with full blown rage. The man had Mara pinned to the ground by her throat. She was struggling under him to fight back. My heart ached at the sight of her, but my anger surpassed the pain.
I bolted forward and slammed my fist into his jaw. He released her throat and staggered backward slightly. I planted my foot right in the center of his chest, sending him flying off of Mara. My men instantly surrounded him and jumped on him to detain him. I shrugged off my jacket to cover Mara’s exposed chest and stomach.
