The Unlucky Turn by Mark Twain 101
His expression was grim, a trace of impatience flashing in his eyes. His grandfather had repeatedly guaranteed that this Ms. Cheney was punctual and reliable, but now it seemed…
Just as he was preparing to stand up and leave, a commotion suddenly erupted at the
restaurant entrance.
“Miss, you can’t go in like that!”
The anxious voice of a server drifted over.
Callahan looked up, only to see a slender figure walking in briskly, her hair slightly messy and her clothes stained with dust. Her gaze searched the restaurant, finally locking onto him. A complex emotion flickered in her eyes.
Leilani didn’t want to meet Callahan looking like a mess, either. She had originally planned to contact Dante first to explain the situation, but her phone was broken, so she had to come in person.
She walked quickly toward him, just about to speak.
“Ring, ring.”
instantly. He picked up immediately. “What is it?”
Callahan’s cell phone suddenly rang. He glanced at the caller

The urgent voice of a bodyguard came from the other end. “Mr. Langley, Arnold was poisoned in the ward! Fortunately, we discovered it in time. The suspect has been restrained. We’re waiting for you to handle it!”
Callahan’s eyes instantly turned cold and sharp as a knife. “I’m on my way.”
He hung up the phone. His gaze swept over Leilani, who was standing in front of him and seemed to have something to say. He frowned slightly. “I have an emergency and need to leave now. Whatever you have to say, save it for when I get back.”
With that, he strode away without even giving her a chance to speak.
Leilani stood there, watching his retreating figure. Her lips moved slightly, but in the end, she said nothing. She hadn’t even had the chance to explain to Callahan that she was the “Ms. Cheney” he was supposed to meet.
Although the date hadn’t happened, and Callahan had left for an emergency, Leilani had to explain clearly to Dante that today’s issue was on her end.
Since her phone was destroyed in the car accident, Leilani walked into a high-end mall in the city center to buy a replacement. She chose one of the latest models and immediately dialed Dante’s number.

The call was answered quickly, and Dante’s booming voice came through. “Hello?”
“Mr. Langley, it’s me.” Leilani’s tone was gentle and apologetic. “I’m sorry. There was a bit of an accident today-something happened on the road, and I couldn’t make the appointment on time.”
“Oh, you poor child!” Hearing her voice, Dante immediately showed concern. “What happened? Was it a car accident? Are you hurt? Is it serious? Where is Callahan?”
Leilani felt a warmth in her heart. she said softly, “I’m fine. My phone just got crushed, so I couldn’t contact you in time. Callahan had an emergency and left.”
“As long as you’re okay!” Dante breathed a sigh of relief, then huffed in dissatisfaction. “That brat saw you were injured and actually just walked away? He doesn’t know how to take care of anyone!”
Leilani couldn’t help but smile, explaining on Callahan’s behalf, “He received an urgent call. It seemed very important.”
“What could be more important than you?” Dante complained angrily. “That boy has bee like this since he was little-cold as ice, zero emotional intelligence! Ms. Cheney, please don’t take it to heart. I’ll lecture him properly later!”
Leilani laughed. “Mr. Langley, don’t blame him was the one who missed the appointment today. I’ll visit you personally another day to apologize to you and him.”
“Apologize for what?” Dante waved his hand dismissively. “If anyone should apologize, it’s that brat! How about this: in a couple of days, I’ll make him pick you up personally, and you two can have a proper meeting!”
Leilani opened her mouth, intending to decline, but Dante was already enthusiastically making arrangements. She had no choice but to agree helplessly. “Alright, whatever you say.”
After hanging up, Leilani looked at her new phone and sighed softly. Her “blind date” with Callahan was certainly full of twists and turns.
