That meant the accident wasn’t minor.

Dante’s tone turned anxious, and Leilani quickly comforted him. “I’m fine, I wasn’t injured. It just seemed like the car came straight at me. A kind passerby called the police, and the officers took me in for a statement. Please don’t worry.”

Straight at her? It seemed Ms. Cheney’s life was fraught with danger. Dante wanted to ask if she needed the Langley family’s help, but he stopped himself. Leilani had always been independent, and their relationship hadn’t reached that level yet. As long as she didn’t misunderstand what happened that day, it was fine.

“If you need help, tell me. I won’t keep you.”

What a sensible girl Ms. Cheney was! Why did she have no luck with his grandson?

He immediately dialed Callahan’s number. It rang seven or eight times before being picked

“Grandpa.” On the other end, Callahan’s voice sounded exhausted, and the background was noisy, as if he were in a busy place.

“You still know how to answer the phone?” Dante scolded him immediately. “What could be more important than your future marriage? You’re a real piece of work, running off abroad

without a word!”

Callahan rubbed his temples. He had been busy with Arnold’s affairs for the past few days and genuinely forgot to tell Dante. “Grandpa, I’ll be back in three days. I’ll explain everything to Paulina’s granddaughter personally then. I have things to do, I’m hanging up.”

“Wait! You-”

“Click.”

The call was cut off abruptly.

Dante stared at his phone. What kind of emergency was this that he couldn’t even speak clearly before hanging up? This was the first time Callahan had ever done that. It seemed the situation was indeed tricky.

After a while, Dante suddenly scoffed. “That brat knows he needs to explain? Maybe he’s not completely hopeless.”

He turned to the butler and ordered, “Go wrap up that set of jewelry from last month’s auction, and the ruby earrings in the safe.”

If the grandson didn’t know how to act, the grandfather would have to make the gesture.

The butler paused. “Sir, are you going to…”

“Send them to Ms. Cheney!” Dante waved his hand. “Consider it an apology from that brat!”

The butler suppressed a smile. “Yes, I’ll handle it right away.”

The next morning, as soon as Leilani arrived at the clinic, she received an exquisite gift box.

Opening it, even someone as worldly as her widened her eyes slightly. An Imperial jade necklace, pigeon-blood ruby earrings, a diamond bracelet… each piece was worth a fortune.

Only Dante Langley would make such a grand gesture. Leilani didn’t know whether to laugh or

cry.

Just as she was about to call to confirm, she received a message from Dante.

[My dear, these gifts are my apology on behalf of that brat Callahan. No need to refuse. I never take back gifts I’ve sent.]

Since Dante put it that way, Leilani couldn’t refuse. She planned to return them to Callahan once he was back in the country. The jewelry was too valuable to keep.

Later, Leilani bought some fruit and took a taxi to Haven Sanitarium. Last time, perhaps due to the shock of the accident, she hadn’t been in the best state and had left after only a few words with Yvonne. She felt she should pick another time to visit properly.

After signing in, Leilani walked familiarly to Yvonne’s ward. Through the glass door of the rehabilitation room, she quietly watched Yvonne inside.
