They interacted so little that Yvonne had been surprised Tamara came today.

“I don’t know, I just feel… uncomfortable.” Yvonne paused, lowering her head dejectedly. She looked quiet and elegant, nothing like the person who had bared her claws at Tamara moments ago.

“I heard from my mom and my brother that she took care of me while I was in a coma. Logically, I should be grateful. But for some reason, the moment I see her, I feel a gut-level resistance. I usually wouldn’t say things like that, but seeing her just now made me lose control.”

Leilani’s eyes flickered, but she didn’t comment.

Yvonne sighed. “Forget it. She’s going to be my sister-in-law anyway. Even if I dislike her, I

have to bear with it.”

The wedding was on the agenda. Her mother seemed to want it to happen as soon as possible. Tamara becoming her sister-in-law seemed set in stone.

After a moment of silence, Leilani spoke softly. “Yvonne, if one day… you remember something important, please make sure to tell me.”

After overhearing the conversation between Gloria and Milford last time, Yvonne knew what Leilani was referring to. Thinking of how Leilani had been wrongly accused of hurting her for years, Yvonne grabbed Leilani’s hand, her eyes firm. “Leilani, I will definitely remember! I won’t let you be wronged anymore!”

Leilani was stunned. Her heart warmed, and she whispered, “Okay.”

Elsewhere, after Milford took Tamara away, she asked him out.

Milford hesitated, but remembering he hadn’t apologized to Tamara for rashly proposing to call off the engagement, he agreed.

Inside the high-end restaurant, crystal chandeliers cast a soft light, making Tamara’s exquisitely made-up face look even more gentle and lovely.

She stirred her lemon water, looking up at Milford across the table, her voice soft. “Milford, thanks for being up for having a meal with me today.”

After the unpleasant scene at the sanatorium, she had worried he wouldn’t want to.

Milford looked impassive. He didn’t want to discuss what had just happened. His long fingers held the water glass, but he didn’t drink.

“I should apologize for going to the Sloan family to break off the engagement without

thinking it through. I didn’t mean anything by it; I just felt we hadn’t considered enough. Please don’t take it to heart. You must have been upset when you heard the news, so I’m apologizing to you.”

Hearing him bring this up, a dark glint flashed in Tamara’s eyes. On the surface, she smiled understandingly. “It’s okay. Although I was a little sad when I first heard it, I trust you wouldn’t hurt me.”

Their engagement still stood, but who knew what the future held? Tamara paused, then asked tentatively, “But… did you want to break it off last time because of Leilani?”

Milford’s fingers paused. He looked at her. “Why do you ask?”

Tamara lowered her lashes, her voice dropping. “I’m just a little worried. Your attitude toward Leilani recently… is different. But I don’t mean anything else by asking.”

She looked at him with a bitter smile. “If you like Leilani, you must tell me. I’m willing to release you from the engagement.”
