The Unlucky Turn by Mark Twain 176
Leilani’s reaction was too calm; none of Brenda’s insults had landed. She could no longer maintain her haughty demeanor and snapped in frustration. “Eating my words? I think you’re just stubborn. No wonder Tamara hates you so much!”
“Ha.” Leilani laughed out loud. “Brenda, do you know how I met Callahan? It was precisely because of your good friend Tamara.”
Brenda’s expression stiffened, and anger ignited in her eyes. What? Leilani met Callahan because of that bitch Tamara? If she had known that, she never would have spoken up for Tamara back when everyone looked down on her!
Beatty, who had been listening quietly, suddenly stepped forward to defend Brenda when she heard Leilani mention Callahan.
“Stop using my cousin’s name to pressure people! At first, I thought you were actually gentle and kind, like Grandpa and Judie said. But it turns out you’re no different from those other women who just want the Langley family status and use my cousin’s name to throw their weight around. You’re really annoying!” Beatty pouted angrily as she spoke. Even though she was twenty years old, she acted innocent and naive. Her insults were childish and completely lacked bite.
Leilani ignored her, picked up her bag, and turned to leave.
Brenda’s voice came from behind her, grinding through gritted teeth. “Leilani, just you wait!”
Leilani walked out of the dealership without bothering to look back. Today, she had intended to keep a low profile and buy a commuter car for around fifty thousand dollars to avoid attention. But since Brenda insisted on playing these boring games, she didn’t mind showing some people the reality. She, Leilani, was never someone who could be easily pushed around.
Directly across the street was an even higher-end luxury dealership. Several imported vehicles sat in the showroom.
A salesman greeted her warmly the moment she entered. “Welcome, Miss. Are you here to buy a car? Feel free to look around and see which model like.”

Leilani scanned the room, her gaze finally landing on a Dark Night Blue Bentley Bentayga. It had elegant lines and a calm, commanding presence. Leilani liked it immediately. She pointed at the blue Bentley. “Do you have that one in stock?”
The salesman’s eyes lit up. “Yes! We do! Miss, this is the V8 top trim. Elegant lines, steady presence-it looks perfect for you. The total drive-off price is around four million dollars. Would you like a test drive? If you do, I can have our staff bring it out for you right now.”
Leilani shook her head. “No need. Let’s just do the paperwork.”
A test drive was too much hassle. By the time she finished buying the car, Marlon should be arriving.
The salesman froze, then broke into a euphoric grin. “Are… are you sure?”
Although he had seen plenty of rich people, this was the first time he had met someone so decisive about a four-million-dollar purchase.

Leilani nodded and took the bank card from her bag, her tone calm, as if four million dollars were just pocket change. “Full payment. Can I take the car today?”
The salesman could barely contain his smile. “Yes! Of course! Please wait a moment, I’ll arrange it for you immediately!”
The service at this luxury dealership was vastly superior to the one across the street. At the very least, they didn’t judge her or treat her dismissively because of her simple clothes.
