The Unlucky Turn by Mark Twain 262
“Exactly. Why couldn’t he just talk properly? Looking at that mean expression of his, I can’t like him anymore.”
“This is just Clive’s one-sided story. Where’s the evidence?”
“Right? If Leilani is really that bad, why didn’t the Sloan family cut ties with her sooner?”
Clive’s fans, the mindless public, and the neutral observers argued relentlessly. Several factions were locked in a heated debate.
#Clive Statement and #Leilani Ungrateful surged up the trending list again.
When Carola woke up, her phone was lagging from the bombardment of notifications. Trembling, she clicked on the post she had written the night before and found that the share count had broken one hundred thousand, and the comment section had pushed the topic to number one on the trending list.
Even Clive had issued a statement!
Carola realized instantly-she was in trouble. This had blown up way too big! She frantically tried to delete the post, but her finger hovered over the delete button, hesitating.
Tamara hated Leilani so much. If Tamara knew she deleted the post, would she be angry?
After much hesitation, Carola messaged Tamara.
angry after hearing what you said last night. I went home and wrote a post about
post has gone viral. The whole internet is cursing Leilani and Clive. I’m a little and I delete it?]
ess than ten seconds after the message was sent, Tamara called.
“Carola!” She sounded both shocked and furious. “How could you post something like that? What if Leilani finds out? And how did my brother get dragged into this?”
Carola was frightened by the sudden anger and felt a bit wronged. “I… I just wanted to vent for you… I didn’t expect things to turn out like this either! I’ll delete the post now. Maybe it will be fine once the heat dies down?”
It hadn’t been easy to get Leilani trending, and now that the internet was in a frenzy cursing her, there was no way Tamara would let Carola delete the post. Her previous words were just an act.
Seeing that Carola was scared and wanted to delete it, Tamara took a deep breath, and her tone suddenly softened.
“Forget it, Carola,” She said, sounding helpless. “The damage is done. Deleting the post now would only make you look guilty.”
She paused, likely guessing what was going through Carola’s mind on the other end of the line. She decided to soothe her anxiety first.
“Carola, don’t worry. Leilani has always been cold and doesn’t like to argue with others. Even if she sees this, she won’t care.”

Carola breathed a sigh of relief but was still uneasy. “But what if someone traces it back to me…” Netizens these days were capable of anything. Carola didn’t want to be cyberbullied.
“How about this,” Tamara suggested gently. “Give me your account login, and I’ll handle the rest for you, okay?”
Carola felt as if she had been granted amnesty and nodded immediately. “Okay! Thank you, Tamara!” After hanging up, Tamara looked at the account password Carola had sent, a cold sneer curving her lips. She logged into the account and scrolled through the comments under the post.
Although most users were jumping on the bandwagon to insult Leilani, a few rational bystanders were still questioning things.
“Cyberbullying a regular person based on a single photo and one side of the story isn’t right, is it?”
“Clive’s statement clearly avoids the main issue. He didn’t mention snatching the watch at all!”
Looking at the accounts still speaking up for Leilani, Tamara narrowed her eyes, picked up another phone, and dialed a number.
