The Unlucky Turn by Mark Twain 360
Tamara clenched her phone, her chest aching with a suffocating pressure.
What exactly had Hackett told them? Why had even Zeus, following in Josiah’s footsteps, started brushing her off?
In the Sloan family garden.
Tamara sat on a swing, feeling a wave of self-pity after being rejected by both Josiah and Zeus. Her eyes were red, and she felt as if all her strength had been drained away.
The time to return to the Sherwoods was approaching fast. Tamara still hadn’t found anyone to help her. This was a stark contrast to her old life with the Sloans, where she was the pearl in their palm, commanding everyone’s attention.
Tamara couldn’t accept this drop in status. She thought of her last hope in the Sloan family.
“Clive…” She murmured the name.
Speak of the devil. Just as she whispered his name, footsteps approached from behind, followed by Clive’s lazy voice.
“Who upset our little princess? Why the long face on your visit home?”
Tamara whipped her head around. Seeing Clive’s roguish face, her tears instantly began to fall.
“Clive!”
In the Sloan family, Tamara had the best relationship with Clive. Seeing him now was like seeing a savior. She threw herself into his arms, crying so hard she could barely breathe.
“Josiah and Zeus won’t talk to me! Do they not love me anymore? Did they believe all those lies Leilani told about me at the wedding?”
Tamara was genuinely aggrieved this time. Her tears fell one after another, quickly soaking the front of Clive’s shirt.
Clive didn’t mind. He patted Tamara’s back and comforted her softly. “What’s going on? How did Josiah and Zeus upset you? Is it because they’ve been too busy lately, so they were a bit short with you?”
Clive knew perfectly well that Zeus and Josiah had been run off their feet recently. Moreover, he understood Josiah’s personality. The company always came first. Josiah had been scrambling because of Tamara’s issues, so it was perfectly normal for him to be moody with her. As for Zeus, he was a workaholic who practically lived at the hospital. He spent the least amount of time at home, so it was no surprise he didn’t want to deal with Tamara’s drama.
Although Tamara understood the reasons Clive gave, she simply couldn’t accept them. “But…”
Tamara wanted to complain more. However, Clive interrupted her by pinching her cheek. His tone was relaxed. “Alright, stop crying. I know why you came back today. It’s just because Milford is ignoring you, right? Is that such a big deal? Don’t worry. Men are like that. Just freeze him out for a

few days, and he’ll come crawling back to you.”
Tamara sniffled. “Really?”
“Of course. When have I ever lied to you? Just wait and see. Once this whole thing blows over, turn on the charm with Milford for a while, and you’ll have him wrapped around your finger. When all this drama is over, I’ll take you out to party!”
Tamara’s insecurity eased slightly under Clive’s comfort. She hesitated at his offer, but finally nodded.
“…Okay.”
