Milford rubbed his temples and said to the doctor, “It’s fine now. You can all leave.”

Once they were alone, Tamara asked tentatively, “Milford, did Leilani… install an alarm system in your sister’s room?”

Milford’s expression darkened. “Yeah.”

Tamara feigned shock. “How could she do that? I know Leilani probably meant well for Yvonne, but… isn’t this clearly saying she doesn’t trust the Sherwoods?”

Tamara covered her mouth as if realizing she misspoke.

“Milford, don’t take what I said to heart. I was just speaking without thinking. We should thank Leilani. After four years in prison, she’s probably just terrified something might happen to Yvonne, so she’s being extra cautious.”

Milford didn’t speak, but his gaze grew colder. The sliver of goodwill he had felt toward Leilani for helping Yvonne vanished instantly.

Tamara made a valid point. Leilani had crossed a line. Even if it was for Yvonne’s safety, she should have informed him first! Keeping him in the dark? Did she think she was the only one who actually cared about Yvonne?

Observing his expression, Tamara rejoiced inwardly and added fuel to the fire. “Milford, don’t be angry. I’m sure Leilani didn’t do it on purpose.”

Milford said coldly, “I’ll talk to her.”

On the other side of town, Leilani had been studying late. Just as she was about to sleep, she received the alert from Yvonne’s room.

By the time Leilani arrived at the sanatorium, Tamara had already smoothed things over with Milford.

Seeing her arrive, Milford stood at the door, looking grim. Tamara stood behind him with red eyes, looking as if she had been grievously wronged.

Leilani swept her gaze over them, walked straight to the monitoring screen in the room, and swiped through the logs.

“At 2:17 AM, someone attempted to access Yvonne’s IV port.” Her voice was icy as she looked up at Tamara. “What were you trying to inject her with?”

Tamara’s face paled, and she shook her head tearfully. “I didn’t! I just wanted to see her…”

Milford frowned and interrupted, “Leilani, you’re overreacting! Tamara just came to visit. Your system malfunctioned. And I haven’t even settled this with you yet. Why did you install an alarm system for Yvonne behind my back?”

“Malfunctioned?” Leilani let out a cold laugh, her eyes sharp as knives. “Milford, did you leave your brain at the door? You believe whatever she says without a single thought of your own?”

Milford froze.

“This system only triggers when the patient’s life signs are threatened. If it was just a ‘visit, it wouldn’t have made a sound!”

The room fell into a dead silence.

Milford’s brows furrowed tighter as his gaze involuntarily shifted to Tamara.

Tamara’s heart pounded, but she looked even more aggrieved, tears falling freely. “Milford, I was really just worried about Yvonne… Leilani has always been prejudiced against me, that’s why she’s framing me like this.”

She suddenly looked up, questioning Leilani with red eyes, “If your system is so amazing, why isn’t it in every hospital? Why install it only in Yvonne’s room? Did you plan this just to set me up?”

Milford’s expression wavered upon hearing this.
