The Unlucky Turn by Mark Twain 64
“You just agreed to come to my house and now you’re running off? No, no, you have to tell me clearly. Where are you going? For how long? Is it safe? Do you need me to send someone with you? By the way, you must come see me the moment you get back! My chest has been feeling tight lately; maybe my old illness is relapsing…”
Leilani was speechless. Chest tightness? He was clearly just being dramatic.
Helpless, Leilani replied: [To Zamora. I’ll be back in a week. I will definitely come for a check-up when I return.]
Dante: [Zamora? What a coincidence! My grandson is there too! You two should meet up!]
Leilani sighed. Somehow, everything led back to this. She considered refusing, but on second thought, Dante genuinely treated her well. Even if it wasn’t for a setup, she should visit to check his recovery. Besides, Dante’s attempts to matchmake were mostly just talk. Perhaps he didn’t mean it seriously and was just using it as a topic to bond.
Once she rationalized it, Leilani felt less tense. She replied: [Okay, I’ll visit your home when I return.]
Dante: [(Fireworks Sticker) (Celebration Sticker)]
He didn’t seem like an old man at all; he was quite trendy.
Leilani shook her head with a smile, put down her phone, and continued packing.
Meanwhile, at the Sloan villa.
Tamara returned home and sat on the living room sofa, her eyes red. She twisted the hem of her skirt, her voice thick with grievance as she complained to Hackett and Zadie. “Mom, Dad… I saw my sister today.”
Since Leilani had blocked the whole family, Hackett hadn’t heard that ungrateful daughter’s name in a long time. Seeing Tamara’s expression, he assumed Leilani had caused trouble again.
Hackett put down his newspaper, frowning. “Leilani? What did she do?”
“I was at the mall today…” Tamara lowered her head, her voice barely a whisper. “She was with Judie Fulton, her mother and a lady I didn’t recognize. The mall even cleared the floor just for them.”
Zadie, who had been listening for gossip, changed her expression. “The Fulton family? Since when is she involved with them?”
Mrs. Fulton and Mrs. Langley were sisters. Tamara had mentioned seeing Leilani with

Callahan before. Had that wretched girl actually climbed the social ladder to the Langleys?
Various guesses flashed through Zadie’s mind, unknown to Tamara.
Tamara just wanted to complain and have Hackett teach Leilani a lesson. After all, before everything happened, Leilani cared most about Hackett and Zadie’s opinions.
Tamara’s eyes filled with tears, distressing her parents. “I don’t know… She seemed very close to them. Judie Fulton was holding her arm…”
She bit her lip, hesitating before whispering, “I wanted to say hello, but… she didn’t seem to want to acknowledge me. And I don’t know if Leilani said bad things about me to the Fultons, but Mrs. Fulton was very rude to me and Carola.”
Remembering that the Langley Group had rejected cooperation with them because of Leilani, and now the Fultons were involved, Hackett’s face darkened. He picked up his phone and dialed Leilani, but it wouldn’t connect.
“Sorry, the number you have dialed is busy…”
The mechanical female voice made Hackett’s heart seize with anger.
