The Unlucky Turn by Mark Twain 84
On the other side, the Sloan brothers stormed straight to Celestial Heights.
At the main entrance, Clive stared gloomily at the glass window of the security booth, his eyes filled with rage. “I said, I am Leilani’s brother! Let me in!”
The security guard ignored him. He remembered Clive as the one who caused trouble for Leilani last time and was eventually thrown out by Callahan. Why did he come back today with another man instead of the girl from last time to cause a scene?
The guard remembered that because of him, the security team had been severely scolded by property management and docked two months’ wages.
The guard glanced at Clive expressionlessly. “Sorry, company policy. No entry without an appointment. Unless you get the resident to come out and escort you.”
Escort them? They had long been blocked by Leilani. Otherwise, why would they storm her residence to cause trouble?
The guard was touching a sore spot.
“You!” The veins on Clive’s forehead throbbed with anger. He was about to explode when Josiah grabbed his shoulder. “Calm down.”
Josiah frowned and turned to the guard, his tone reasonably polite. “We truly have urgent business with her. Can you make an exception?”
The guard shook his head. “No.”
Clive completely lost it. “She’s just a fresh ex-convict; where does she get off acting so high and mighty? Has your property management been scammed by her? She can’t possibly afford a house here!”
Just as he finished speaking, the property manager happened to pass by and, hearing the dispute, walked over.
“Gentlemen, this is a private residential area. Please do not cause a disturbance.”
Josiah suppressed his anger and asked in a low voice, “We just want to confirm if Leilani Sloan is home.”
It would have been better if Josiah hadn’t mentioned Leilani. The moment he did, the property manager looked at him with a complex expression. “What is your relationship to Ms. Sloan? Don’t you know that she isn’t home? She went abroad a week ago…”
“Went abroad?” Clive was shocked. “Where did she get the money to go abroad?”
The property manager glanced at them; it was obvious these two had a bad relationship with Ms. Sloan. She had specifically instructed property management not to give her address or

contact information to others. Celestial Heights was famous for its service. Naturally, the residents’ feelings came first.
The manager said coolly, “Ms. Sloan is indeed away. Making a scene here is useless.”
Too lazy to explain further, he turned to leave, dropping one last sentence, “We have no right to pry into a resident’s private affairs, but please do not disturb other residents.”
Clive stood frozen, a flashback suddenly hitting him of a figure he saw at the airport the other day. He had just returned from abroad and saw a woman who looked exactly like Leilani from afar. But thinking it impossible for Leilani to go abroad, he assumed he was mistaken.
But now…
“It really was her?” He muttered to himself, his face turning even uglier.
Josiah frowned deeply, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes. Since Leilani’s release, they had never cared about her whereabouts, let alone imagined how she got the money to live in a high-end community or travel abroad. In this moment, he suddenly realized his understanding of this sister was perhaps less than that of a stranger.
“Let’s go,” Josiah said coldly.
“Where to?” Clive hadn’t recovered from the shock.
“To investigate,” Josiah’s gaze deepened. “I want to know exactly what she has been doing during this time.”
Meanwhile, in the presidential suite in Zamora.
