But now, the intimacy between them was right in front of him. Callahan had personally stepped in to defend Leilani! What did this mean? Had Leilani really managed to attach herself to the Langley family?

Remembering the specific warning Lennox had given him previously, Josiah grew more alarmed the more he thought about it. Barely stabilizing his emotions, he tentatively asked, “Mr. Langley, you and Leilani… know each other?”

Callahan didn’t even spare him a glance, speaking directly to Leilani instead. “Let’s go.”

Leilani nodded, not even looking at Josiah, and followed Callahan away.

Josiah stood rooted to the spot, watching helplessly as they walked off side by side, his expression shifting unpredictably. What kind of methods had Leilani used to actually secure the backing of the Langley family?

Inside the VIP corridor, Leilani glanced sideways at Callahan. “Why are you here?”

His injury didn’t stop him from returning to the country? Leilani gave a meaningful look at the graze wound from the bullet on Callahan.

Callahan stood with one hand in his pocket, his tone casual. “I took a private jet, so I landed only a few minutes after you.”

And it was all because a certain someone, seeing the danger was over, had heartlessly abandoned the injured him. Callahan’s eyes held a trace of resentment as he thought about

Leilani raised an eyebrow. “So, you came specifically to bail me out?”

Callahan paused slightly, turning his head to look at her, “And if I said yes?”

Leilani chuckled lightly. “Then I suppose I have to thank you.”

Every time the Sloan family came looking for trouble, Callahan managed to appear just in time. She didn’t know if fate was tying her to Callahan, or if the universe just hated the Sloan family.

Callahan’s gaze rested on her face before he suddenly spoke. “Leilani.”

“Hm?”

“I’ve helped you so many times. Isn’t it time to repay the favors you owe me?”

Leilani stopped walking and looked up at him. “How would you like me to repay you?”

The corner of Callahan’s lips hooked up slightly, a deep meaning flashing in his eyes. “No

rush,” he murmured. “We have plenty of time.”

While Leilani and Callahan chatted comfortably, back at the Sloan villa, Josiah returned with a dark face, his mission failed. Low sobbing could be heard from the living room.

Since learning Milford wanted to break off the engagement, Tamara had been despondent, crying constantly.

“Mom, Dad… How could Milford do this to me?” Tamara leaned into Zadie’s embrace, her eyes red and voice choked with sobs. “Everything was fine before, why would he suddenly want to break up…”

Zadie held her heartbreakingly, comforting her softly, “Don’t cry, Tamara. There must be a misunderstanding. We’ll go to the Sherwoods and clear this up.”

Hackett sat beside them with a dark expression, his brows furrowed tight. “Milford is acting unethically!”

While Yvonne was injured, it was Tamara who had stayed by Milford’s side for four years. Now that Yvonne had recovered, the boy had forgotten Tamara’s devotion and dared to bring up ending the engagement!

Just then, Josiah pushed the door open, his face looking even worse than when he left.

“Josiah!” Tamara wiped her tears immediately upon seeing him, asking urgently, “Did you find my sister? Did she… did she say something to Milford?”

She bit her lip, eyes brimming with tears, putting on a pitiful display. “If… if Leilani and Milford are truly in love, then I… I’m willing to step aside.”

“Tamara!” Zadie interrupted, pained. “What nonsense! You are the rightful fiancée acknowledged by the Sherwood family. Who does Leilani think she is?”

Josiah rubbed his temples in exhaustion and threw his jacket onto the sofa.
