The Unlucky Turn by Mark Twain 99
However, before his hand could touch her sleeve-
“Swish!”
A silver needle was suddenly pressed against his wrist, the tip glinting coldly. One more inch, and his entire arm would be paralyzed. Josiah froze, his pupils constricting.
“Touch me again, and I won’t mind disabling this hand.”
Leilani’s voice was light, yet it sent a chill down his spine. She had had enough of the Sloans getting physical every time they saw her. If she didn’t teach them a lesson, they really would think she was easy to bully.
The entire Sloan family was stunned. No one expected the once submissive Leilani to dare raise a hand against them!
Tamara stepped back in fear, her voice trembling. “Leilani… how could you do that to Josiah?”
Leilani couldn’t be bothered to look at her. Retracting the needle, she turned and walked
away.
Seeing this, the security guards immediately stepped in to block the Sloan family from chasing her. “Please leave immediately, or we will call the police!”
Hackett was livid but helpless, forced to watch Leilani’s back disappear into the complex. “She… she actually dared…”
Zadie’s lips trembled, clearly not yet recovered from the shock.
Josiah looked down at his throbbing wrist, his gaze sinister.
Tamara bit her lip, a flash of jealousy and fear in her eyes. “She must have latched onto the Langley family. She never acted like this before. Now she’s so arrogant…”
Hackett clenched his fists, grinding his teeth. “Regardless of who she’s latched onto, the Sloan family’s business is not for the Langley family to interfere in!”

The Sloan family wouldn’t let this go, but she was no longer a lamb waiting to be slaughtered.
Perhaps accustomed to the Sloan family popping up to seek attention, Leilani was only

irritated for that one evening. Afterward, life returned to its routine. The Sloan family vanished after that day, not returning to Celestial Heights to trouble her.
The week passed quickly, arriving at the day Leilani had agreed to meet Dante.
Sunlight streamed through the curtains into the room. Leilani stood before the mirror, adjusting her collar. She had chosen a simple beige outfit-not too formal, yet dignified and elegant. The woman in the mirror was picture-perfect, her soft hair falling over her shoulders, her eyes holding a composure beyond her years.
She let out a soft breath and picked up the acupuncture kit. Leilani was in the habit of carrying it; it could be used for self-defense or to save lives.
Ready, she picked up her bag and left the apartment. The morning at Celestial Heights was quiet, with only the occasional cleaning staff nodding to her. Leilani returned the greetings politely, walking briskly toward the exit.
However, just as she stepped out of the main gate and prepared to hail a taxi, a harsh engine roar suddenly erupted from her right. A black sedan, seemingly out of control, was speeding directly toward her.
