Chapter 319:

He had seen the schematic on Isolde’s tablet. As Felix had turned away and dismissed her, Carter Sterling — sharp-eyed and unhurried — had caught the moment Isolde’s wrist shifted almost imperceptibly, angling the screen just enough to reveal a detailed glimpse of the three-dimensional wireframe. It had lasted a fraction of a second, but his mind, trained to process data at speed, had captured the essence of the design. The intricate curves, the structural logic, the hand-annotated equations — all of it burned into his memory in that single fleeting instant. It was enough.

It was more than enough.

Carter Sterling tapped his chin.

“Interesting,” he whispered.

Across the room, Belle laughed loudly with Felix, fully convinced she had secured her dominance. She hadn’t noticed the shark sitting quietly in the corner.

The lights in the main hall dimmed. A spotlight struck the center stage.

“And now,” the announcer’s voice boomed, “the Keynote Address from InnoTech.”

Thunderous applause filled the room.

Grayson climbed the stairs to the stage looking powerful and commanding, Belle blazing beside him in her red dress beneath the lights.

He took the microphone and looked out into the sea of faces. His gaze found Isolde standing in the shadows near a pillar. He held her eyes for a moment.

“Innovation is about partnership,” he began, his voice smooth and practiced. “It is about trust.”

He gestured toward the front row.

“I am proud to announce our strategic alliance with Thorne Capital.”

Felix Thorne rose from his seat and waved. The crowd cheered.

“This deal was made possible,” Grayson continued, turning to Belle, “by the brilliance of my partner, Belle Escobar.”

Belle beamed and waved with the ease of royalty. “Thank you, Gray.”

Grayson turned back to the audience. His tone sharpened.

“We believe in proven talent,” he said. “Not experimental risks. Some people play at technology. We define it.”

Laughter rippled through the crowd. It was a subtle dig, but everyone in the room understood precisely who he meant — Carson Dynamics, the upstarts, the pretenders. Isolde.

She stood in the shadows and let the words land. They stung like acid.

She knew Belle’s so-called brilliance amounted to little more than networking and borrowed ideas. She knew the technology they were selling was fundamentally flawed. But the world didn’t care about truth. It cared about the show.

Arland leaned close to her ear. “Let’s leave. You don’t need to watch this.”

Isolde shook her head. Her face was a mask of stone.

“No,” she whispered. “I need to remember this feeling.”

On stage, Felix joined them for a handshake and a photo opportunity. He took the microphone.

“I invest in winners,” Felix said. “InnoTech is the future. Unlike other firms led by amateurs.” He looked directly at Arland and Isolde as he said it.

The room turned. Hundreds of faces swiveled toward them — a sea of silent judgment.

Isolde kept her chin high. She didn’t flinch. She didn’t look away. She let them look.

But beneath the stillness, she felt the weight of the Lancaster name pressing down on her again — the label of Trophy Wife burned into her forehead like a brand she couldn’t shed.

From the stage, Grayson watched her. He had expected tears. He had expected her to turn and walk out.

She just stood there.

A flicker of annoyance moved through him. Why wouldn’t she break?

The presentation ended. Music swelled. Confetti drifted down from the rafters. People swarmed Grayson and Belle, and Isolde was left in a pocket of complete isolation.
