Chapter 108:

As one of Inewood’s most captivating beauties, Rosalie immediately drew the attention of every affluent young man at the party. They all recognized the deep bond between the Campbell and Horton families, and with Fraser having grown up alongside Rosalie, he posed a significant obstacle to any potential suitors.

With Fraser present, the other suitors stood little chance. And now, with Ashton unable to join the dance floor, Fraser felt a sense of assured victory.

However, what he didn’t realize was that his earlier conversation with Ashton had backfired.

While Rosalie danced, her eyes were continually drawn to Ashton. She had unintentionally overheard Fraser’s conversation with him, which made her realize her mistake.

She had invited Ashton to her home without considering whether he would feel comfortable at a masquerade ball. Seeing him standing on the edge of the dance floor stirred a wave of anxiety in Rosalie.

Unaware of her turmoil, Fraser approached her with confidence. After executing a courteous bow, he extended his hand with a sincere expression, offering, “Rosalie, may I have the honor of this dance?”

But Rosalie, snapping back to the moment, took a step back and declined gracefully. “Fraser, the theme of tonight’s party is to foster new friendships. Since we already know each other so well, let’s allow others a turn, shall we?”

After her words, Rosalie made her way toward Ashton, who was leisurely enjoying some snacks on the sidelines. As Ashton savored the flavors, a delicate scent reached his senses, signaling Rosalie’s approach.

He looked up to see her smiling radiantly at him. With a charming smile, she invited him, “Ashton, it’s rare for you to attend these types of events, right? Why are you sitting out the dance? Come, let’s dance together!”

She extended her hand to him.

The crowd was visibly shocked.

The usually reserved eldest daughter of the Campbell family was inviting a man to dance, and it wasn’t Fraser?

Fraser was deeply shocked by Rosalie’s actions. Although they had grown up together, he had never once had the chance to dance with her, nor had he ever been the recipient of such an invitation.

Quickly regaining his composure, Fraser approached them, his smile forced as he said, “Rosalie, isn’t this a bit inappropriate? Ashton might not be skilled at dancing, which is probably why he’s avoided the dance floor. As the host and the center of attention, if you invite him so suddenly and he fails to perform well, it could turn into a laughing matter for everyone.”

Upon hearing Fraser’s words, Rosalie paused for a moment, realizing that she might have underestimated the situation.

She hesitated briefly before turning to Ashton, her voice soft. “Ashton, would you like to dance with me? If you feel any pressure, it’s perfectly alright to say no. No hard feelings.”

Ashton set his plate down, his smile easy and confident. “It’s just a dance. I don’t feel any pressure at all. I actually know a thing or two about dancing. Besides, it wouldn’t be gentlemanly of me to decline a lady’s invitation.” With that, he stood up and took Rosalie’s outstretched hand.

Rosalie smiled, handed him a mask she had prepared, and led him confidently to the center of the dance floor. Fraser stood frozen, watching them walk away. When he finally collected himself, his jaw clenched in fury. His thoughts churned bitterly as he observed them. Fraser questioned how well a commoner like Ashton could dance. He suspected Ashton was merely seizing the moment, eager to get closer to Rosalie.

With a scornful look, Fraser silently dared Ashton to proceed, eager to see him potentially embarrass himself in front of everyone.
