Chapter 111
Chapter 111:
Selena gazed at the cold, retreating figure of Fraser, a pang of sadness gripping her heart. Despite her outwardly sunny and cheerful demeanor, Selena’s heart was delicate and sensitive, a condition exacerbated by her frail health since childhood.
In her memories, Fraser had always been a gentle and caring presence, offering her the kindness of an older brother, even though they were not related by blood. Watching him depart with such a grim expression, dismissing her concern, filled Selena with a profound sense of loss.
Nearby, Ashton and Rosalie, having just left the dance floor, immediately noticed Selena’s desolate expression. Rosalie’s first instinct was to rush to her side, but Ashton gently held her back.
“You still need to host the party,” he said, smiling warmly. “Let me handle this with Selena.”
Rosalie hesitated for a moment, her eyes darting back to the bustling guests on the dance floor, before she nodded in agreement.
Once Rosalie had rejoined the festivities, Ashton made his way to Selena.
“Selena, it’s a bit stuffy with all these people around. How about you give me a tour of your manor?” he suggested kindly.
Selena managed a weak smile and nodded in agreement. Her frail health had forced her into a wheelchair shortly after the party started. Thus, it was less about her giving a tour and more about Ashton pushing her wheelchair for a gentle stroll.
Ashton wheeled Selena toward the tranquil artificial lake in the manor. The lotus flowers there were in full bloom, painting a picturesque scene that even Ashton found himself admiring.
Yet, as he looked down at Selena, he saw that she was still troubled, her eyes uninterested in the natural beauty surrounding them.
With no one else around, Ashton ventured, “Selena, you seem a bit down. Is something on your mind?”

Feeling a surge of sadness, Selena instinctively nodded, her thoughts turning to how Fraser had ignored her. But as she opened her mouth to speak, she hesitated. She didn’t want to burden Ashton with her emotions. Finally, Selena sighed softly, shook her head, and chose to remain silent.
Noticing Selena’s reluctance, Ashton did not pursue the matter further. Instead, he quietly continued to push her wheelchair along the lakeside, lost in his thoughts. He speculated that perhaps Selena felt isolated because she couldn’t join the dance, a notion that might have dampened her spirits even more.
After a while, Ashton decided to break the silence. “Selena, are you feeling a bit envious because your sister can dance so freely?”
Before Selena had a chance to respond, Ashton continued with reassuring words. “Don’t worry. As long as you stay on track with your treatment, focus on your diet, and stick to your routine, I’m confident we can overcome your illness. One day, you’ll be able to dance as freely as your sister. And I’m looking forward to the day when I can share a dance with you.”
Initially, Selena had wanted to clarify that Ashton had misunderstood her feelings, but his comforting words touched her heart. A radiant smile finally lit up her face, and she responded softly, “Thank you, Ashton. That’s a promise then—you’ll dance with me.”
Seeing Selena’s spirits lift, Ashton felt a wave of relief wash over him and nodded back with a smile.
As they continued their leisurely stroll by the lake, taking in the scenic beauty, Selena’s mood visibly brightened. They engaged in light-hearted conversation and laughter, leaving her earlier sadness far behind. Time flew by, and it wasn’t long before Ashton realized it was time to return to the party.
However, just as he was about to guide Selena back, a sudden commotion arose from the direction of the party venue.
