Chapter 134
Chapter 134:
As soon as Sheila picked up the phone, her brother’s anxious voice came through, pleading for help.
She, however, had already received a strict directive from Ashton and couldn’t agree to such a request.
Crossing Ashton could mean more than just losing her job. It could spell disaster for the entire Watson family.
Therefore, with a pained look, Sheila coldly replied, “When did I ever promise you that? All I said was that I’d consider our options. It’s clear now that there’s nothing I can do. You need to let this go.”
Hearing Sheila’s refusal, Phillip’s desperation surged, and he quickly pleaded, “But you’re the VP! Surely, there’s something you can do about this! You can’t be serious!”
“It’s precisely because I am the VP that I must act responsibly. If I cross the line and we get caught, it won’t just be me at risk—it’ll be our entire family. We’re not as well-positioned as some of the other families involved in this significant project. You need to face reality,” Sheila explained, her voice growing colder.
Sheila’s words felt like a death sentence for Phillip.
Realizing the impending humiliation that awaited him in front of all the prominent families, Phillip’s panic reached new heights.
“Sheila, I’m begging you! Help me just this once. If you don’t, I’ll be humiliated, and it’s not just me. The whole Watson family will become a joke to everyone here!”
Sheila’s heart skipped a beat. But it wasn’t at the thought of Phillip getting ridiculed, but at the realization that he had dragged their entire family into this mess.
“Phillip, what mess have you gotten us into now?” she demanded.

At this point, Phillip could no longer keep it to himself and confessed, “It’s Ashton’s doing! He was acting all high and mighty; I felt I had to put him in his place. I made a bet with him that if we failed to secure a spot in this project, I’d physically roll out of the venue. If I won, he would have to do the same. I need to win, Sheila. If I have to follow through, it’ll tarnish our family’s reputation forever!”
Sheila’s heart plummeted. She couldn’t believe that Phillip, in his foolishness, had landed them in such a dire predicament.
It suddenly made sense why Ashton had been adamant about blocking any collaborative opportunities for both the Watson and James families. It was all because of her brother!
If Phillip hadn’t continually stirred up trouble in front of Ashton, their family might have secured a valuable collaboration.
The Campbell family had already shown interest in one of their project proposals. A few favorable discussions might have sealed the deal.
Now, thanks to Phillip, any prospect of elevating the Watson family’s status was ruined.
Overwhelmed by frustration, Sheila couldn’t contain her anger any longer and burst out over the phone, “How did I end up with such a useless brother? I warned you not to cause any problems, especially not at such a critical time. Did you even listen to a word I said?”
She paused abruptly. Thankfully, she caught herself just before she revealed Ashton’s identity in her anger.
She had already issued subtle warnings to Phillip, but he had blatantly ignored them. Now, her fury was reaching its peak. Through clenched teeth, Sheila continued, “To tell you the truth, I’ve tried everything I could, but you sabotaged it all! Now, even if our dad begged me, I can’t do anything to help!”
Without giving Phillip a chance to reply, she ended the call, her anger simmering within.
