Chapter 138:

Sheila averted her eyes from her brother’s pleading gaze. Phillip, feeling the sting of rejection, steeled himself to make an appeal.

“Sheila, you know the situation. I need your help! If I go through with this bet, it’ll bring shame on our family.”

He was convinced that Sheila wouldn’t abandon him in this crisis.

They were siblings, bound not just by blood but by shared family interests. Despite her clear annoyance, how could she possibly turn him away now?

Moreover, he thought, facing public humiliation was worse than death itself.

Initially indifferent, Sheila found herself unable to completely disregard his plea.

With a resigned sigh, she approached him, raising Phillip’s hopes.

He brightened, believing she still cared.

But her next words cut through the air with cold clarity. “Phillip, you’re not a child. You lost, and now you must honor your commitment. You know this is right. And you should apologize to Mr. Baldwin for acting out of line.”

Phillip stood speechless, his hopes shattered by her firm stance. Originally, Phillip had pinned his hopes on Sheila helping him out. Even if he couldn’t secure a part of the project, he hoped she would assist him in sidestepping the bet.

However, his sister offered no aid. Instead, she insisted he apologize to Ashton while honoring the bet.

Phillip couldn’t help but wonder whose side she was really on.

Feeling deeply wronged, Phillip’s frustration grew, especially as most of the onlookers from the earlier commotion now stared in his direction. The thought of bowing his head to apologize to Ashton was utterly humiliating.

Resolute, Phillip sharply retorted, “Why should I apologize to him? I’ve done nothing wrong! Moreover, this ridiculous bet isn’t even legally binding. I refuse to honor it!”

As he talked, Phillip’s expression hardened, a clear sign of his outright denial.

Sheila’s frustration with Phillip’s stubbornness escalated, her face flushing a deep red.

But before she could voice her anger, a mocking sneer from Ashton cut through the tension.

Ashton, clapping slowly, walked casually toward Phillip.

“Just a moment ago, you were all courage, demanding I keep my promise. Now that it’s your turn, you suddenly declare the bet illegal? If you had honored the bet, I could have respected you as a man of his word. But you’ve shown yourself to be nothing but a sore loser, unable to face defeat. You’re going to follow through on your promise, or else don’t blame me if I’m not kind to you!”

Ashton’s threat sent a chill through Phillip, who was still shamelessly clinging to hope.

Especially when he noticed Ashton flexing his wrist—a reminder of the day Ashton single-handedly took down a gang—Phillip’s courage evaporated, and fear took hold.

He trembled violently, desperation creeping into his voice. “Look around, there are too many people here. Don’t do anything foolish!”

But as Phillip talked, Ashton advanced toward him more quickly. Terrified, Phillip blurted out, “I’ll leave! I’m rolling out of this place!” With that, Phillip squeezed his eyes shut.

In front of the gathered representatives of various families, he clumsily rolled on the floor and exited the venue, overwhelmed by humiliation.
