Chapter 174:

“Originally, I hadn’t planned on being here personally,” he said with a flippant air. “But it seems I made a perfectly right choice.”

Rosalie frowned and pushed his hand away, her voice sharp with disgust. “Don’t touch me with your filthy hand!”

The man’s eyes turned icy at her words, but before he could respond, Ashton interjected coldly, “Hey, your target should be me, right? I’ve surrendered. I trust you won’t involve innocent people.”

Though Ashton agreed to exit the cave, he had not truly given up and was still looking for any chance to turn the situation around. He could now confirm that the man attempting to flirt with Rosalie was likely the leader of this operation.

With a focus on capturing the ringleader first, Ashton directed all his attention to this man.

Unaware of Ashton’s true intentions, the leader regarded him with palpable disdain. He approached Ashton with a sneer, his eyes glinting with contempt.

“You must be Ashton Baldwin,” he said mockingly. “No wonder you’re the target. Do you really see yourself as a big shot? Look at you now—what could you possibly offer me in negotiation?”

With a derisive laugh, the man raised his foot, aiming a vicious kick at Ashton’s abdomen.

Ashton could have easily dealt with this one guy, and if it came down to it, an entire crew of assassins would be no different. But instead, he furrowed his brows and let the guy’s kick land squarely on him.

His thoughts were racing, far beyond the threat of guns in their hands. The lives of the innocent hostages trapped in this nightmare weighed heavily on his mind. Even though the enemy was flaunting their strength, Ashton bit his tongue, staying calm and measured.

He knew that provoking them could set off a deadly chain reaction.

From their calculated moves, Ashton discerned exactly who he was up against.

This wasn’t some ragtag bunch like Liam’s crew, who would collapse the moment their leader fell.

These were cold-blooded assassins, the kind who wouldn’t hesitate to execute a hostage if they were provoked.

With that thought in mind, Ashton knew he needed to bide his time and stay poised, despite his plan to take down their leader. The assassin leader, swelling with pride after seeing Ashton take the hit without retaliation, shot him a sneering grin.

“Thanks for reminding me,” he jeered, relishing his moment of triumph. “I almost forgot the most important part. As a little reward, I’ll make this quick and painless for you. And then, I’ll take these lovely ladies for myself!”

Ashton maintained a stern expression, his eyes subtly tracking every move the man made.

At the same time, he kept a vigilant watch on the weapons the other assassins were holding, scanning for any sudden movements or hidden threats.

This crew was no ordinary gang; they were elite killers, and Ashton knew better than to underestimate them.
