Despite being overwhelmed by pain, Blood Diver saw his opportunity.

Ashton became momentarily distracted, and in that instant, Blood Diver sprang from the ground, seized Selena, who had been standing nearby, and took her hostage.

Blood Diver’s body trembled uncontrollably from the excruciating pain in his chest.

Maybe Ashton had acted too quickly, or perhaps luck had smiled on him. Luckily for Blood Diver, Ashton’s bullet hadn’t pierced his heart, sparing his life.

Still, the danger was far from over. His injuries were critical, and his men were either dead or incapacitated. He knew he needed a strategy to turn the situation around. Clenching his teeth against the pain, Blood Diver pressed his dagger tightly against Selena’s throat.

As Ashton raised his gun, Blood Diver shouted, “Don’t make a move! You know who I am. Believe me, I’ll take her down with me if it comes to that!”

Ashton’s brows furrowed as he slowly lowered his gun.

Blood Diver pressed on. “I underestimated your strength—that was my mistake, and I admit defeat. But make no mistake, I still hold the cards. Get a vehicle here now for me and what’s left of my crew. If not, she’s gone!”

Ashton studied Selena’s frightened expression, his mind racing. He sighed, weighed down by the situation.

If only Blood Diver and his crew would retreat, things might be simpler. But Ashton knew better than to trust these ruthless killers to back down without a fight. He glanced at his watch, calculating the arrival time of reinforcements.

Wanting to buy himself some time, Ashton said, “What if I really go get the car, and you use the opportunity to harm my students?”

Blood Diver coughed violently, blood spilling from his mouth.

Blood Diver growled, “Stop wasting my time! I’m not here to negotiate! If you delay any longer, she will suffer the consequences with me!”

With those words, Blood Diver tightened his grip on the dagger pressed against Selena’s neck. Even the dull edge of the blade left a crimson mark on her skin.

Witnessing her sister in such danger, Rosalie panicked. “Let my sister go! I’ll take her place as your hostage!” Rosalie surged forward but was quickly held back by Ashton.

Ashton shook his head, warning, “Rosalie, don’t act rashly. If he takes you too, I’ll be at a loss.”

Turning to Blood Diver, Ashton’s expression was one of genuine concern and reluctance. He laid his gun on the ground and raised his hands in surrender.

“I’ll do as you say and get the car. Just please, don’t harm my students.” Ashton gave in reluctantly.

Slowly, he turned and made his way toward the vehicles stationed near the campsite.

Yet, as he turned, Ashton slyly slipped his hand into his pocket. Hidden inside were several silver needles. In this situation, the needles would prove more useful than a gun.
