Chapter 204
Chapter 204:
Once the police van had departed, Rosalie took on a serious demeanor, circling Ashton several times.
When she was finally reassured that Ashton was unharmed, her tense expression softened, and she let out a sigh of relief.
“I told you I’m fine. Don’t you believe me?” Ashton teased with a grin.
Pouting, Rosalie huffed, “How do I know you’re not just putting on a brave face? Besides, shouldn’t you be pleased that I’m concerned for your safety?”
Ashton rarely saw this childish side of Rosalie and found it endearing. A smile tugged at his lips.
However, his expression soon turned serious. “I’m not directly involved with the project, yet Roger knew my name. Someone clearly targeted us. Any idea who?”
Rosalie sensed something was amiss. With Ashton’s input, she had a hunch.
They spoke in unison. “Could it be Sup Group?”
Realizing they were on the same page, they exchanged knowing smiles.
But Rosalie’s expression quickly turned grave.
Sup Group had initially sent workers to cause trouble, then openly challenged Skyline Group, and now they had resorted to employing gangsters to disrupt the project.
Their aggression was clearly escalating.
Rosalie regained her composure, took Ashton’s arm, and gazed earnestly into his eyes.
“Ashton, Sup Group keeps making moves. Roger’s behavior seemed off. They might retaliate against you. Promise me you’ll be cautious. I don’t want anything to happen to you.”
Ashton paused; then he smiled and nodded.

He felt Rosalie’s genuine concern.
This feeling of being cared for was something he had never experienced with Emalee.
It felt quite nice.
Simultaneously, it might have been his imagination, but Ashton felt a flutter in his heart.
Roger didn’t linger long at the police station. Due to severe leg injuries, he required urgent surgery at a hospital.
Consequently, his father paid a substantial bail to secure his release.
Fortunately, the medical diagnosis revealed that, despite the deep penetration of the butterfly knife fragments, none had damaged any vital bones.
Following surgery to remove the fragments, Roger’s life was spared.
When he awoke from anesthesia, memories of his humiliating ordeal surged, turning his fear into rage.
“Dad! I’ve never suffered such humiliation. I almost lost my life. You have to avenge me, or we won’t be able to explain things to our employer.”
