Ashton had been briefed on the matter by Charlie earlier. He had intended to look into it after completing his duties with Rosalie. The coincidence, however, allowed him to address it sooner.
By the time Ashton arrived, the so-called patient had already been causing an uproar for a considerable amount of time, and the incident had begun to gain traction online. A crowd had gathered outside Skyline Group’s headquarters, murmuring among themselves and pointing fingers.
At first, some among the onlookers dismissed it as a mere scam, but as they observed the patient’s deteriorating condition, doubts turned into belief. The idea that one could contract a mysterious illness from tainted antiques began to seem all too plausible.
The moment the patient spotted Ashton, recognition flashed in his eyes. He abruptly halted his tirade, redirecting his focus entirely on Ashton, blocking his path and demanding answers.
He lashed out with fury, “You deceitful fraud! Stay right where you are! It was your speech at the exhibition that convinced me to place my trust in your words. But look at what your company has done—they couldn’t even make sure the antiques they were selling were safe for customers’ health! Now, because of your negligence, I’ve ended up like this!”
Ashton regarded the man with a calm but scrutinizing gaze, his frown deepening as he asked, “Are you entirely certain about that, sir?”
The man’s expression hardened, and he replied with cold defiance, “I don’t care about whatever excuses you might come up with. My current condition is your fault, as well as Skyline Group’s. If you don’t provide me with satisfactory compensation, I will make a scene here every single day until the truth about your corrupt dealings is known to everyone!”

Ashton did not answer her right away; his eyes stayed locked on the patient as if scrutinizing every detail.
After a moment of silent observation, Ashton shook his head and replied, “This has the Marquez family’s fingerprints all over it, no question about it. The problem is, this man genuinely suffers from a rare condition. Someone more cunning than Jacoby is pulling the strings this time. If it were just Jacoby’s amateur tactics, I could have exposed this charade without breaking a sweat.”
