Chapter 313:

As the meticulous acupuncture treatment took effect, a hint of color began to creep back into Bobby’s ashen complexion. Witnessing this, Emalee was consumed by a profound sense of regret.

The Longevity Pill Ashton had given was genuine.

If only she had trusted him sooner, perhaps they could have avoided this dire situation.

However, Emalee had no time to linger on her remorse.

Suddenly, a raucous disturbance erupted outside the hospital room door, with loud, disruptive voices piercing the solemn atmosphere.

“Matthew! If your family doesn’t settle the debt today, you won’t be walking out of this hospital!”

Amidst the commotion, the hospital room door was violently kicked open. A group of menacing thugs stormed in, their presence heavy with silent threats.

The men scanned the room and quickly locked eyes on Matthew and Miriam. Without hesitation, a few of them rushed over, seized the two by their heads, and slammed them against the wall with a thud that echoed through the sterile air.

The leader of the group, a burly man with a sinister aura, spat out the cigarette he had been nonchalantly chewing on and sneered as he approached the restrained pair. He pressed a cold steel rod against their necks, his eyes glinting with malice.

“What, did you really think hiding out in a hospital would stop us from finding you?” he sneered. “Let me tell you something—if you don’t pay up, we’ll find you no matter where you run, even if it’s to the ends of the earth!”

Matthew trembled, his face contorted with fear. “We agreed on 3% interest,” he stammered. “It’s only been a few days, and now you’ve doubled it? How could we possibly have that much money?”

Atley Adams, the leader, chuckled coldly. “Cut the crap! We say how much, and that’s it. If you keep whining, it’ll be more than just doubling.”

As he spoke, Atley’s gaze drifted and settled on Emalee, who was visibly shaken and pale.

With a malicious raise of his eyebrow, he let out a lecherous whistle and taunted, “Running low on funds, are you? Well, there are other means to settle your debts. Isn’t your daughter the CEO of your firm? I’ve yet to indulge in such refined company. If money is scarce, perhaps she can satisfy the debt. Let her keep us company for a year, and it should square your accounts.”

At these vile suggestions, Bobby, who had been showing signs of recovery, flushed with rage and began to cough violently.

Though Ashton believed Matthew and Miriam’s predicament was a consequence of their own actions—a bitter harvest from seeds sown in folly—he could not overlook Emalee’s distress and Bobby’s profound despair.

With a deep furrow creasing his brow, Ashton intervened, swiftly removing the steel rod from their necks. In a low, resolute voice, he addressed Atley.

“This is a hospital room. Cease your theatrics or you risk disturbing the patients,” Ashton asserted, his tone brooking no opposition.

Atley was taken aback, momentarily stunned. He hadn’t noticed Ashton’s approach or how deftly the rod had been wrested from his grasp.
